GAMBLING ATTORNEY SENDS MESSAGE TO CASINOS
"THE PARTY'S OVER!" IN YOUTUBE VIDEO
Former attorney Arelia Margarita Taveras, after commencing a $20 million dollar lawsuit against major gaming casinos in Atlantic City and
Las Vegas
, tells casinos, "The Party's Over" in a
Youtube
video view by over 724 million viewers on the internet site.
The audacious Taveras, no stranger to controversy stemming from the commencement of the lawsuit, mentions some of the reasons for starting the suit, including casino management's offer to have her sign a Waiver of Liability to protect a gaming establishment.
According to Taveras, her cathartic explanation to the public is "meant open the public's conscience to the numerous indignities and violations experienced by gamblers around the globe."
She asks the public to "focus on the issues and stop defending an industry that is destroying lives."
She challenges the public to view her lawsuit through informed channels and has even set up a website for the viewing of her complaint—
MYCASINOLAWSUIT.COM
.
In her video, she encourages gamblers around the world to copy her complaint and commence lawsuits of their own.
"We need to see more cases like these in the courts in order to stimulate change in the gaming industry."
Among those mentioned
Donald Trump
, whose casinos the Trump Plaza and Taj Majal in
Atlantic City
are huge revenue earners for the magnate, who continues to this day to solicit Taveras even after being served with the court papers.
"
Donald Trump
is on constructive and actual notice, that a lawsuit has been filed for these very violations and he continues to mail advertising offering up to $3,000 dollars to me with Ralph Lauren linens and all, just to get me to come back.
He's doing this, because he thinks he can!"
Taveras maintains that once a compulsive gambler is identified by the gaming industry as such, any type of enticements or advertising to a home is in violation of the Federal
Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act
.
The casino violates federal law by using the US Postal System in furtherance of an illegal or illicit act.
In this case, soliciting a compulsive gambler who is not mentally or emotionally able to gamble responsibly against
New Jersey
gaming laws.
In addition to the mailings, Taveras contends that her family was threatened with incarceration when they came to "pull her away from the tables."
That casino staff ushered her back in and created a separation between her and her family who continuously begged them to let her come home because she had a problem.
Instead of sending her home, the casino tried to keep her and arrest her parents for wanting to take her by force.
Taveras has posted her lawsuit and the casino's responses on her website aptly titled:
Taveras pledges to establish a much needed treatment facility and gambler's assistance program in
Atlantic City
should her case prevail.
