New Survey: Worst and Best Acne Treatment
myyname | 04/02/2008
A new survey about teen acne treatment conducted by the Derma Foundation in Davos, Switzerland, shows that make-up and ordinary cosmetic products can not help to fight acne symptoms. A total of 7507 secondary school students in Switzerland, Germany and Austria aged between 12 and 18 years participated in the survey.
The survey alleges products by the cosmetic industry's big players being useless to cure acne. Dr Paul Conig, spokesman of the Canadian internet portal acne-treatment-answers.com, affirms the survey's results: "A few dermatological studies say that ordinary cosmetic products can only clean, change the appearance, or protect the skin." Only special cleansing systems and acne medicine prescribed by a dermatologist could help to get rid of acne, said Conig.
The survey also examines the associations between acne and depressive symptoms. Teeneragers suffering from acne are 6 times more likely to get a depression than teenagers without acne. "Clinical depression, social phobia, and certain anxiety disorders have been associated with skin diseases in the past. Acne patients report greater levels of anxiety and depression than other medical populations, including cancer patients and patients suffering from other dermatological disorders," the acne-treatment-answers.com spokesman comments.
About Acne
Acne is a chronic skin disorder caused by inflammation of the hair follicles and small glands in the skin. It is estimated that 85% of people have acne at some point in their lives. The skin disorder almost always begins during puberty.
