Medina Garrigues advances at Guangzhou Open

GUANGZHOU, China – Top-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain beat Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 on Tuesday to advance to the second round of the Guangzhou Open.

Medina Garrigues had her serve broken only once in the match.

Australia's Sophie Ferguson upset eighth-seeded Alberta Brianti of Italy 7-6, 6-4.

Also, Anastasiija Seveastova of Latvia beat China's Lu Jing Jing 6-4, 6-2, while fifth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel defeated Germany's Kathrin Woerle 6-1, 6-4.
