War of the whole grain breads

Life, in general, sorely tries my patience! My desire for instant gratification constantly butts heads with my destiny's penchant to unfold gradually. Underneath my practised veneer of patience, lies a fidgety creature! Nevertheless, I will set aside my innate impatience when it comes to baking Bread. There is something (dare I say it) almost spiritual about coaxing flavor from wheat. Feeling like...

Bless You Boys

The clock is still counting down for the regular season. Tomorrow night begins the flirtation with greatness. Hope springs anew. One mo' time. "Not only is another world possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her Breathing." Arundhati Roy Breathing. We think of Breathing not as Breathing like Hollis and Sed after morning sprints. There is the social utility facebook with the New Orleans...

"Pocket"

Barack Obama 's new television spot charges that John McCain is in Big Oil's "Pocket" ... "Big Oil’s filling John McCain’s campaign with $2M in contributions," a narrator says. "Because instead of taxing their windfall profits to help drivers, McCain wants to give them another 4 billion in tax Breaks. After one president in the pocket of big oil… We can’t afford another." Hipster Olympics, part 1

Last summer's BoaDrum, a Brooklyn drum circle organized by avant-rock Japanese band the Boredoms (pictured), was so successful—even among those who don't wear American Apparel—that the band's repeating it tomorrow. Called 88BoaDrum, this year's event, set in Manhattan, is to...

A meeting of the minds Morons

I met fellow Moronblogger XBradTC for a few beers tonight, just down the road from the real historical marker in Brea Canyon that's my blog's namesake . We mostly talked about military matters (Brad is an Army vet, while according to my lefty betters, I'm a Chickenhawk), politics (especially our mutual dismay over the rise of Captain Bullshit), and the Moronosphere. Brad is a very nice, well-mannered...

Filed under: Sony PSP , Action , RPGs It's been eight long years since we've last seen our favorite Mitochondria-battling cop, Aya Brea, in Square's survival horror/RPG hybrid series Parasite Eve . Well, that's not exactly true, we did catch a glimpse of her contemplating eating a bullet sandwich following the announcement that the long awaited next installment in the series would be released exclusively...

Back in business.

After over a fortnight of inactivity it was good to be feeling well again and able to get out and about. Yesterday Gouldiae and I showed the East Gippsland Bird Observer’s Group around the Swamp Reserve, and Bellbird Corner, the birds were quite cooperative, and a good day was had by all. To my way [...]

Can't put a price on good conversation.....or shoes.

Waiter chum and I went to throw the rubbish out towards the end of the night. It's not normally a two person job. To tell the truth it's never a two person job. But when the situation is right the two of us "volunteer" to throw the rubbish out just so we can get a crafty extra smoke. Most smoke Breaks are solo affairs so from time to time it's nice to have a chum to share the unique delights of a hand...

It Caught My Eye: Humongus Fungus Amongus

Biking in to work this morning I had to double back and get a shot of this fabulously surreal and colorful growth on the trunk of a curbside tree on Redondo just where it splits off of from La Brea south of Olympic (click to triplify): I’m no arborist, botanist or fungitech, so I’ve relied [...]
