Song of the Week: Jeff Buckley

Jeff Buckley: Lover, You Should've Come Over I've obsessed over quite a few Jeff Buckley songs from Grace - "Last Goodbye" (which miraculously had a lot of radio airplay in the mid 1990s), his jaw-dropping cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah",...

More Buckley classics!

The Baltimore Sun praised it as "Eloquent . . . immensely readable...the saga of the victory of capitalism over the brutal and irrational fraud that was state socialism." The Washington Times called it a "great narrative of democratic survival and democratic victory." Publishers Weekly crowed "Buckley's lucid account celebrates the tenacity of the human spirit and the will to achieve freedom." Even...

"Lipstick Jungle" will feature more shirtless Robert Buckley and reveal a gay character...

I'm sure that most of the TV critics here at the Beverly Hilton for the last day of the summer press tour could care less about what's happening with the characters on "Lipstick Jungle" in the new season. I however,...

Bill Buckley, Poseur

That accent? C'mon. A reader vents: Your post on your colleague Megan lamenting the end of the American "upper class" accent was interesting. I would venture to guess that this accent disappeared because it was an affectation more than a...

Bettongs and Potoroos

William Buckley, transported convict, escaped and lived in the bush among the Wathaurung people of Western Victoria (Australia) for thirty-two years. On re-entering white society at the splendidly named Indented Head he overcame by now severe difficulties with the English language to dictate an account of his adventures to a missionary, George Langthorne. Read more here . From the notes to The Life...

NV Supremes Issue Term Limit Ruling

State Senator Bill Raggio (R-Washoe) and Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley (D-Clark) are facing their last campaigns to retain their respective positions in the Nevada legislature. According to the Nevada Supreme Court ruling several other public servants have already exceeded their term limits. [ NV Appeal ] Evidently, term limits do have some meaning for this Court, as opposed to residency requirements,...

SDCC: Tidbits from the Marvel Panel

Friday at Comic-Con International kicked off with a panel in one of the smaller halls that combined the different divisions of Marvel with Kevin Feige on board for Marvel Studios, Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada and Dan Buckley for Marvel Publishing and Craig Kyle there for Marvel Animation. After a couple of slides of all of Marvel's upcoming projects and events (all which have been announced), they went...

A Name, Please!

Why is David Brooks being so mysterious ? For years, says New York Times columnist David Brooks, the model for conservatives who developed a passion for writing (or vice-versa) was not a reporter but a commentator: National Review founder William F. Buckley Jr. Besides being attracted to his elegant language and compelling arguments, up-and-coming conservatives saw something else in Buckley: job stability....

Elaine 'forcible sodomy' Donnelly scorched by WaPo for ludicrous DADT testimony [Pam's House Blend - Front Page]

Dana Milbank at the WaPo delivers a stunning and accurate smackdown to the misguided, misleading and unhinged Elaine Donnelly of The Center for Military Readiness, who testified at yesterday's House Armed Services personnel subcommittee hearing on the law known as Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Donnelly treated the panel to an extraordinary exhibition of rage. She warned of "transgenders in the military ."...

It's all propaganda

First I see this . And for many reasons it makes me giggle. Buckley WAKE UP -- THEY HAVE GONE MAD. Just lookin ' around the internet , seein ' what the wingnuts are up to... In the immortal words of Curly, " Ngggnn yahh !" Seems the Obama European Tour has brought out the best in Dr. Melissa Clouthier , who defensively explains: This is about artistic tone. The profile view. The serious expression....

Presentation: JPEG2000 for Archives and Libraries

The slides for this presentation - JPEG2000 for Archives and Libraries - are online . Both Dr. Robert Buckley and Justin Dávila delivered information in this session. It's easy to flip through the slides, so I'll not excerpt anything here. Be sure to look at the definitions of JPEG2000. Technorati tag: JPEG2000

much that was previously mysterious is finally made clear

I've been a fan of D.R. Tucker's work since he took over Right Angle. It's like reading William F. Buckley as edited by The Onion as related by a 12-year old. I often am amazed that he can display such density in such density . But now, Tucker may have revealed his secret sauce: It’s only been a week or so since Tony Snow’s passing, and I can still hear him speaking to me. Bonus quote from this column:...
