William Hague has sensationally claimed that he and David Miliband share more than a job title. They are both, according to Hague, ‘geeks’. In an interview, he said: “People want normal politicians and David Miliband is more geeky, more like me. David Cameron could wear a baseball cap, whereas Miliband would find it harder to appear [...]

It's no good. I have held this back for too long now and I have to get it off my chest. Anyone who knows me, has read my rants here, or on various forums over time, will know what I think of politicians. They will know the utter contempt I have for nearly all of them, from whatever party and from whatever country. I truly believe we have evolved a political system, that rewards the worst kind of person....

Young Dave Milliband’s move to usurp Gordon Brown has the potential to turn into an epic poem, one of those quest things where a hero sets out to lead his people to rediscover a flame lit in a past golden age. Homer, Virgil, Mallory, Milton, Bunyan and Byron, particularly in his poem Childe Harold, spring to mind. Political pilgrimages that set out to reclaim the legacy of a lost leaders are doomed...

One of the bigger stories I didn't get round to writing about in the last two months was David Davis's little stunt. I don't call it a stunt to disparage it or him - stunts are what it takes to get attention these days. If the government introduced a policy of sacrificing newborn babies to Beelzebub, the media would spend hundreds of hours of screen time on how it affects any possible

David Milliband, the British Foreign Secretary, has raised a lot of eyebrows in both the Guardian and the Times with an unexpected article about his vision for Labour to beat the odds for a fourth term in government. His detailed statement suggesting that the Party needs a 'radical new phase' has been interpreted both as a challenge to Gordon Brown's leadership and an implied criticism of it. I

Full coverage of UK Politics If David Milliband's piece in the Guardian today is a bid for the Labour leadership, it is indeed a clever one. He doesn't, as we were told liberally on the Today programme, mention the Prime Minister once. That's by and large because it was an attack on the alleged vacuity of...

If David Milliband is not unofficially running for the Labour leadership, then his remarks yesterday have not done anything to quell the rumours that he is. Click HERE to listen to him yesterday and to read the interesting comments from Brown loyalists. They are preparing for battle, although it was different when they were briefing against Tony Blair, so they think.

"Can Gordon lead us into the next election and win? Yes. I'm absolutely confident about that." - David Milliband So now we know: he's quite definitely going to challenge Gordon Brown for the top job! Oh well, I suppose being captain of a sinking ship is better than being the cabin boy on a seaworthy one. Isn't it?

Wednesday 30th July What a day. I finally had my writing published in the Guardian! This could be my big chance. Then I did a Press Conference and I was great. Witty and very mature. Gordon must be shaking in his boots now, Ha! He should have known better than to upset my friend Tony. I’ve got [...]

David Milliband writes in The Guardian, mainly about how Labour can take on the "status quo" politics of David Cameron. Apart from the Miliband commentary piece itself, there is a fairly straight news report on the front of The Guardian. There is a somewhat daft report in The Times, which opens by saying: "David Miliband tomorrow dares Gordon Brown to sack him by setting out how Labour can still win...

It is perhaps unfair to compare the two events since they took part in vastly different circumstances, but Cameron's handling of David Davis and Brown's handling of Milliband are poles apart in terms of how to handle maverick juniors Will David Miliband be able to play the game well enough to win? Cameron, although visibly cool about the announcement and clearly not ...

Today, David Milliband unofficially placed his bid for the Labour leadership, in the most oblique way he could manage whilst still making his intentions clear. In the Guardian, he penned an article based on the future direction of the party. A vision, if you like. The problem with David's vision was that whilst there was room for a mention of La Thatcherina, there was none of Gordon Brown, who is still,...
