How does Jim Leyland feel about Armando Galarraga " looking forward " to facing the Texas Rangers? "I read his comments the other day about how he can't wait to face them and that they made a mistake. I didn't think they were good, to be honest with you. "That's silly stuff. That's high school, in my opinion. These hitters Texas has, they'll be here. What you say is 'Hey, they made a decision. This...

Jim Leyland on Matt Joyce : "I really like Joyce a lot. "Joyce is not a regular player up here yet, by any means. Joyce is a prospect for this team next year. Joyce is not a slam dunk to be on this team next year. Is he one of the top candidates? Sure. But is he a slam dunk? Absolutely not." From the Detroit Free Press

Jim Leyland before the game: Zumaya’s right shoulder remains a point of concern. Leyland said Zumaya reported “normal soreness” and indicated that he was able to pitch, but Leyland said that description was “not defined enough for me.” “I’m not going to have it on my plate that I got Joel Zumaya hurt, getting greedy,” Leyland said. I’ll be honest. I was going to break my rule about swearing on the blog and use some expletives in the title and direct them towards the skipper. His management - or lack of management - in the final inning of today’s debacle was grossly negligent (I’ll hit this more in a minute). [...]

I have said it before. Jim Leyland is a terrific manager. For proof, all you have to do is recall what the Pirates, Marlins and Tigers were before he arrived. His only real failure was with the Rockies. And Leyland has taken accountability for it, in addition to leaving a lot of money on the table when he left. But this season has not been the best for Leyland. Seems like a lot of his decisions

Awful lot of people finding this site by searching for Glastonburrows, the charity music festival held in Leyland. I attended in 2006; I’m still waiting for my teeshirt that I paid for! Hippy has probably been wearing it for the last two years… About time you lot registered the glastonburrows domain too, someone will sooner or [...]

For a sports fan, baseball's All-Star break is generally the three dullest days of the year. Sure, there's the actual game and the home run derby that goes with it, but other than that, not much goes on in sports for three days. Well, unless you consider summer league basketball a must see event. For the players that don't make the team though, the days off are a blessing they can use to get some

As you know, Placido Polanco was a late scratch from last night's lineup after batting practice. On the FSN Detroit broadcast, it was reported that Polanco had a sore knee. After the game, Jason Beck reported on his blog that Jim Leyland said the problem was patella tendinitis in Polanco's right knee, and he'll be sitting out tonight's series finale against Texas. (Leyland had planned to give Polanco...

From Tom Gage 's Detroit News blog: "Wondering? How Kyle Farnsworth occasionally gets hit hard with good velcoity and seemingly good stuff? This could be the reason why. 'He needs to throw with the same velocity inside that he does outside,' said Jim Leyland . 'He throws 96-97 miles an hour away, and 92 in. His stuff shouldn't get whacked like that.'"
