Roberts Quotes - nay, misquotes - Bob Dylan

The NYT's Adam Liptak partially redeems himself with this strange but lovable piece on judicial citations of popular musicians' lyrics. While Rehnquist's citations of Gilbert and Sullivan operas are far less hip than the current Chief Justice's efforts, they were seemingly more on point. I'm still holding out, though, for Justice Thomas to cite Lil Wayne.

Glimmers of Hope from Roberts and Alito

by publius I’ve now had a chance to dig into last week’s Supreme Court opinions — CBOCs v. Humphries and Gomez-Perez v. Potter (pdfs). Both cases extended civil rights protections to claims of retaliation (I’ll explain below). What’s most interesting...

Supreme Court

Robert Barnes & Kevin Merida of the Washington Post have an article entitled “Activists Want ‘True Liberal’ For High Court.” To me, the article underscores that true liberals are barely recognizable in public life today. It suggests Hillary Clinton as a “true liberal.” That she is considered the “far left” or anywhere near it is [...]
