The first report was from Brewers.com, via Twitter : Brewers acquire CF Carlos Gomez from Minnesota in exchange for SS J.J. Hardy. I did NOT see that coming. It's been confirmed pretty much everywhere. According to MLBTradeRumors , thanks to Hardy's midseason demotion in '09, he's under team control for 2010 and 2011. Hardy had good seasons in 2007 and 2008 at the plate, putting up OPS+ numbers north...

Given how the market treated Abreu last year, it's not a surprise that he jumped on this offer. 2:19pm: SI.com's Jon Heyman says the deal also includes a vesting option for 2012. 1:58pm: The Angels have re-signed outfielder...

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Vicente Padilla shot himself in the thigh while hunting in Nicaragua. It's only funny because he's not seriously injured... or dead. There are a few different stories floating around out there as to what actually went down. According to media reports in Nicaragua, Padilla was injured at a shooting range. At least two other reports stated that he was accidentally shot...
According to Bill Madden of The NY Daily News, the Royals have agreed to send the versatile Mark Teahen to the White Sox in exchange for Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Madden says Teahen is expected to replace free agent-to-be Jermaine Dye in rightfield. The 28-year-old Teahen hit .271/.325/.408 last year, but is a career .261/.325/.514 hitter at U.S. Cellular Field. FanGraphs has him at -2.0 UZR/150...

Browse more photos » Enough action happens at the fringe of Seattle's roster that I could fill a day's worth of posts just about Louis Rankin and C.J. Wallace . I don't. A time comes when enough moves have piled up that the aggregate is newsworthy. That time is today - so says I. Seattle released C.J. Wallace and signed Jamar...
By Henry Abbott On his blog, Orlando center Dwight Howard writes about the fouls and injuries that kept him from playing much in a Magic loss to the Pistons last night. On both counts, he implicates the night's referees Steve Javie , Eli Roe and Joe Forte: I was on the floor for 16 minutes and fouled out!!! Let me say that again: 17 minutes and six fouls!!! How can that be, ya’ll? It was crazy....
