More than 20,000 people in the United States have placed a $99 deposit to reserve a Smart Fortwo when the car goes on sale in January. FRANKFURT, Germany -- DaimlerChrysler AG said today that it recalled 1,650 of its revamped Smart fortwo microcars that were sold in Europe because of reports of possible steering problems.
