Ikon Office Solutions Inc., of Malvern, which agreed to sell to Japan-based Ricoh Co. Ltd. for $1.6 billion yesterday, employs 25,000 people who keep Canon Inc., Ricoh and other copiers running in offices around the United States. It's a necessary business, but its profit hasn't grown as it should for a company that wants to stay public.
