We reported yesterday that both NBC's Fall 2008 and Summer 2009 lineups will not include the U.S. version of Top Gear , but that doesn't mean the peacock network isn't keeping the show as a feather in its multicolor plume. There's a section on NBC's website for primetime shows being developed for the 2008-2009 season, and one page is devoted to Top Gear USA. We found its description intriguing....

In a Versace showdown, Whitney won over cute favorite Anya Well, ladies (and Gus), the time is nigh. The time when the heavens open up, choirs of angels sing, a plume of white smoke rises and the voice of God -- you thought God would sound more like Charlton Heston than Tyra Banks? silly of you -- proclaims "America's Next Top Model." And if it's not Anya, so help me Tyra...
Chaitén's eruptions resumed their former force overnight, and VAAC advisories have returned to code red status. A very heavy plume of jet stream cloud remains in the area this morning. Pacific storminess has shifted further north, with the main axis of the jet stream getting closer to the eruption site. This makes it difficult to [...]
Ken Plume from Quick Stop Entertainment and I spend a lot of time on the phone. We have conversations that make very little sense. Then one day, I decided that we should harness our powers for the good of mankind. But Ken would hear none of it and instead we harnessed our [...]
Buenos Aires VAAC has dropped the aviation alert at Chaitén from code red to orange. Volcanic emissions are apparently decreasing, for the first time in many days. Heavy cloud has entirely obscured the area today; no eruption plume has pierced the cloud since early this morning. Does this mean the worst is over? Perhaps, but [...]
Though the photos of lightning in the the Chaitén eruption plume were taken more than a week ago, they are only now receiving wide circulation on the net, thanks to Drudge and others. I posted an early copy exactly a week ago. Several images were available at that time. They were all taken early in [...]
No much information has emerged yet today. The Buenos Aires VAAC reports continuous ash emission. Height is now reported at surface to 20,000 feet. A recent update forecasts increasing plume height. Perhaps some new seismic data has suggested buildup of activity. The previous forecast had sustained the steady-state of recent days, with plumes around 20,000. No [...]
That plume of smoke trailing a missile-shaped object that was flying over River Rouge Park on Friday night and Saturday afternoon wasn't a UFO or some illegal fireworks. It was a rocket launched by kids who may become future astronauts, engineers or rocket scientists.

Thanks to Our Descent Into Madness for the link. Is EndGame's Inevitability Beginning to Dawn on Us? -- Another brilliant essay by my friend Joe Bageant suggests that we're all getting chronically depressed for a very good reason -- a Dark...
The dirt swells up into a plume and flies past the frame Of the half-built home across the street Scouring the carpenters and laborers Who have been pounding since five in the morning Their faces covered with bandannas or masks They resolutely continue to hammer Construction debris and fast food wrappers Collect in the backyard Every few days someone shows up to take [...]
The latest Buenos Aires VAAC update indicates “continuous emission” from Chaitén resumed at 0900Z (5 1/2 hours before post time). The ash plume is difficult to discern on visible or infrared imagery, as heavy cloud has swept off the Pacific at mid and high levels, and the ash is mingling with it. Some wavelengths do [...]
