A radio station reported late yesterday that hundreds of employees had been evacuated from a Vale Inco nickel operation in Thompson, Man., because of a fire. Citing eyewitness sources, CJOB radio reported that several fire trucks and ambulances raced to the scene earlier in the afternoon as thick black smoke drifted over a mill. They said the smoke and the smell of tar that filled the air later dissipated....
