Matter management systems are only as good as their reporting capabilities

Matter management systems all have reporting capabilities, from canned reports that come with installation to elaborate report writers. The low-tech way to supplement those capabilities is to export data to a spreadsheet and massage it there (See my post of...

The Feasibility of Neuroimaging in Market Research

This post is a bit off topic for my blog, but since I do delve into matters of marketing, I thought I'd share a link to this paper, co-authored by old friend Richard Fuchs (who among things, ran Business Objects Asia-Pacific) entitled The Feasibility of Neuroimaging Methods in Market Research . Excerpt: McClure et al's (2004) highly publicised, and already mentioned, study comparing Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola...

BusinessObjects is The Best Thing About SAP Business Suite 7?

As I’m sure everybody knows by now, SAP launched Business Suite 7 last week. Despite skepticism about some of the claims made for the new suite, analysts declared that the inclusion of BusinessObjects analytics into the suite was a big part of its appeal.

Business Intelligence: An Useful and Intelligent Review

A happy quack to the reader who alerted me to Stephen Swoyer’s “How BI Habits Are Changing” here. In general, I agree with his points. What impressed me was the jargon free analysis of the changes in business intelligence. For me, the most interesting comment was: SAP has a lot of account control in SAP shops [...]

It Would Have Been a Crime not to Include Analytics in This New Application

Today, SAP launched SAP Investigative Case Management for Public Sector, a new solution to support police and other investigating authorities in the efforts to prevent, detect and investigate crime. It’s a great example of the new SAP Business Suite 7 applications that integrate technology from the Business Objects acquisition, combining both operational and analytic expertise into a single solution....

Talend Update: Open Source Data Integration

Talend is a French outfit looking to shake up the expensive, largely proprietary world of data integration and analysis with a coherent suite of tools and with a MySQL-like dual licensing strategy. I caught up with VP of Marketing Yves de Montcheuil earlier this week. The really big question is- are enterprises ready for open [...]

Whither the Business Objects website?

If box-bearing facilities guys are the harbinger of a executive's disappearance, then I suppose the corporate website is the harbinger of a company's. A bit more than a year into Business Objects' acquisition by SAP, they seem to have done the "Business Objects, an SAP company" thing pretty well. That is, SAP seems to have let Business Objects operate as a relatively independent business...
