NHA TRANG, Vietnam (AP) _ Miss Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe 2008 on Monday in a contest marked by the spectacle of Miss USA falling down during the evening gown competition for the second year in a row. An elated Dayana Mendoza received the crown from her predecessor, Riyo Mori of Japan, and then prepared to meet a gaggle of reporters.

Priscila Perales was Mexico's Miss Universe 2006 and a finalist in the Miss Universe Pageant. Japan's Riyo Mori won the event. Unless you are like me, thinking that even a bad example can be a good example...of what not to do, Mexico's beauty queen is NOT like Japan's beauty queen. Priscila Perales was arrested for drunk driving - 0.9 blood alcohol level.

Riyo Mori was a big draw to my sister site, RisingSunOfNihon. If truth be told, the news about the Japanese beauty was a big draw at KnowMoreMedia. Can you say several hundred thousand page views? Hands down, Riyo Mori was the hottest topic of the year here at RisingSunOfNihon. No crystal ball, nothing, I just happened to write about her a few months before the Miss Universe pageant.
