Here We Go Again: Yahoo! Music Throws Away the DRM Keys

Just over a month after consumer backlash caused MSN Music to rescind its decision to deactivate the digital rights management ("DRM") servers that allowed MSN Music purchasers to "reauthorize" music files after upgrading operating systems or buying new computers, Yahoo! Yahoo! to Shut Down Music Store Access by Sept. 30

Several months after the Microsoft MSN Music Store snafu, Yahoo! announced Wednesday night that support for the Yahoo! Music Store -- and access to music purchased from the service -- will shut down as of Sept. 30, 2008.

Yahoo to shut down DRM servers for Yahoo Music Limited after September

Yahoo Music Unlimited has now officially become limited. In February they decided to partner with Rhapsody and stop selling music through their own premium service. Now they're planning to pull the plug on the DRM servers after the end of September.
