Why have all the talking heads on every network and cable show gone on and on about the Chinese using one girl to lip-sync for another girl who was “singing” their National Anthem? Evidently, the girl with the great voice was not considered by Chinese authorities to be as “cute” as the one they used [...]

Last week, I saw Mama Mia! on the big screen. Were I to judge the movie by its component parts, I would give this one low ratings, very low. The choreography is both campy and cheesy. Pierce Brosnan while he looks fine on screen can’t carry a tune. There’s no chemistry between the young [...]

A two-disc Special Edition of QUO VADIS is coming to DVD November 11, 2008. I love this DVD cover art! (Click to enlarge the picture.) QUO VADIS stars two of my favorites, Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr. The movie has been restored, including Miklos Rozsa's "road show" overture. Extras include a documentary and a commentary track. I saw bits of the film when I recorded it to video earlier this year...

Just a few quick items with a biblical connection of some sort. 1. At last, Mervyn LeRoy's adaptation of Quo Vadis (1951), starring Deborah Kerr and Peter Ustinov, is going to get a proper release on DVD -- and on Blu-Ray, too. The Warner Home Video press release indicates the film will come with all the usual bonus features, and while the two-disc DVD is due to come out in November, the Blu-Ray will...
