Recalling the 2002 movie Stealing Harvard (with Dennis Farina and Megan Mullally), and noting the recent episodes of Harvard plagiarism, one wonders if a coming attraction will be captioned, Harvard Stealing? See Plagiarism at Harvard, again? Harvard Business Review article: Plagiarize with Pride **Did Harvard's rep play any role in the change of title from Stealing Stanford (USA) (working title)

This recently released film may be worth a try — at least for wine buffs. There are a few customer reviews at Amazon: “Bottle shock” describes what can happen to wine as it travels from place to place. Set in 1976, Randall Miller’s widescreen docudrama concerns the real-life showdown between California’s wineries and their French counterparts. [...]

Bottle Shock looks like a great movie. I mean, Alan Rickman, Dennis Farina, what could be bad? More trailers for Bottle Shock.

Another day, another trailer for an ensemble piece - this time, though, a comedy and a pretty funny looking one at that (funny ha ha, not funny "what's that growth on your lip?"). BOTTLE SHOCK tells the story of the "Judgment of Paris" wine competition in 1976 in which a Napa vineyard's wine bested the traditionally best French wine in a blind taste test competition. Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Freddy...

Many of the subplots and distracting character details in BOTTLE SHOCK feel fake and forced, even if they are based in reality. I don't care that the father and son didn't get along, or that the son was involved in a cutesy love affair with one of his employees (Taylor). But there's enough going on here to keep things interesting without the phony Hollywood formula nonsense. The supporting cast (including...

Though it's hard to believe, over 30 years ago, wines from continents other than Europe (and countries other than France and Italy) were considered crap. Not less palatable or uncertain in quality: Boone's Farm meets Thunderbird. Uncivilized swill. Of course, this wasn't true. Napa Valley, as well as regions in Australia, were creating wonderful vintages. But since the French controlled everything...

Randall Miller reconstructs a watershed moment in the wine world's acceptance of California, but the film is unable to figure out what kind of movie it wants to be, and flops around between madcap comedy and rousing drama.

AS recently as 30 years ago, California wines were considered something of a joke by connoisseurs. Even most Americans were familiar only with gallon jugs of Gallo that sold for $5 or so. Randall Miller's crowd-pleasing "Bottle Shock" tells the...
