Clearly, no running column devoted to memorable movie scenes can neglect the fine art of hoofing. Dance has always been an integral part of the medium’s appeal, even if the death of the live-action musical ( Chicago and the forthcoming Nine notwithstanding) means that most notable choreography can now be found on TV reality-show competitions. Trouble is, what I don’t know about dance could...

If I have a business meeting I may not wear any accessories other than overstated cuff links. Any accessory must be a focal point, and really say something. Favorite designers...

It Takes A Thief Finally Coming To DVD? This isn't news, per se ; it's a rumor... but it's a good one! And apparently from a reliable source. TVShowsOnDVD (a very reliable source itself) reports that the wheels are in motion to bring the last remaining classic Sixties spy show not yet available on DVD to that format at last. That's right, I'm talking about It Takes A Thief , starring Robert Wagner...
Fred Astaire is fantastic in this sequence. He was never a "crooner" and it's unfortunate that the director asked him to sing the intro. But watch - beginnng at the 1:30 mark - when the singing starts and the dancing begins... Outstanding. BTW, this video is high enough definition to justify watching fullscreen... Enjoy! The Gene Wilder/Peter Boyle parody is offered as a humorous tribute....
After posting the item below I did a search for "top hat," which of course leads to Fred Astaire. And I realized that for some inexplicable reason I have blogged for almost two years without including an Astaire dancing video. This corrects that oversight. I think I should blog something about top hats - but should it be Astaire? or perhaps that Puttin on the Ritz parody scene from Young...
