If there's one actor working today who is worth waiting for, it's Johnny Depp . Unfortunately, not all filmmakers have the luxury of being able to postpone a project long enough to fit the busy star in. His many commitments may, for instance, force Terry Gilliam to replace the actor in his second attempt to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (Robert Duvall claims to be Depp's Jean Rochefort's substitute...

Let's suppose you're Terry Gilliam . Probably a stretch, I know, but humor me. If you're Terry Gilliam and you really want to go back to La Mancha. Because Don Quixote is one of the most legendary figures in all of fiction, wouldn't you want to cast a real heavyweight to not only fill the shoes and help keep what was a terminated production once upon a time on the rails this time around? Gilliam,...

For years, we've heard rumblings that eternally unfortunate filmmaker Terry Gilliam had every intention of resurrecting his epic failure/labor of love THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE. In fact, just a couple of months ago he claimed that he'd found a suitable replacement for Jean Rochefort, his original whimsical windmill-tilter before the production imploded (a tragedy documented in LOST IN LA MANCHA)....

Back in October, Terry Gilliam told Empire he thought he'd found his Don Quixote to play in the revised version of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. He refused to reveal the name. Suggestions were that we'd have to wait for some time to discover who he had in mind. But now the actor has come right out and said it -- or at least, an actor has come out and said that Gilliam wants him for the role. Robert...

Compared with the year that preceded it (and please feel free to look back at the first three installments of this series), 2003 was indeed a down year for movies, but that certainly didn't mean it still didn't have some real winners. It was, in fact, a particularly strong year for documentaries. Two made the final cut you'll find below, and two just missed out: Jeffrey Blitz's "Spellbound"...

And finally, the list of Thomas Bohnet . He's a dj, a promotor, a cd-compiler and a nice guy. Pictured is Keren Ann (no. 4). More lists? See here . 1 Benjamin Biolay - Rose Kennedy (2002) Biolay`s fantastic debut, with songs between Chanson and Pop. Elegant and with international flair. 2 Noir Desir - Des visages des figures (2001) The most important rockband. With the big hit Le vent nous portera....

We're pretty sure it's not Jean Rochefort.

Terry Gilliam 's tormented production of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote looks like it's finally on solid ground. Hey, it only took about nine years. Gilliam first began work on Don Quixote back in 2000, but the film got wildly out of control, both because of internal and external influences (a flood ruined sets and actor Jean Rochefort was seriously injured during the production). So the money and...

Terry Gilliam's film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has had such a troubled birth that it has become the stuff of cinema legend. The project, once the subject of the great documentary Lost in La Mancha, was famously beset by natural disasters and an incapacitated lead actor when Gilliam originally tried to shoot it in 2000. The director is going to try again, with a new cast and slightly different...

O'Horten directed by Bent Hamer 2007, 90 minutes, in Norwegian with English subtitles Sony Pictures Classics The oddest quality about the 67-year-old Norwegian pipe puffer who grants this low-key absurdist comedy its title is his name: Odd Horten. Or perhaps, because this loyal railroad engineer of four decades is a creature not just of habit but of synched timetables, his dedication to his near-ceremonial...
