It's funny how life imitates art. Anyone who's ever sat up late at night, switching channels in a growing insomniac tizzy hoping to find something worth watching on the box, will probably have come across a film called Logan's Run.

I follow his truck up the drive, keen to tell him the exciting news about the chicken bark. He disembarks from the cab and throws open the tailgate. Several badly-packed supermarket bags are revealed. “What'” I begin. “Have you been…” “Don’t say anything,” he warns, wearily lifting down the shopping. I convey my message and slope back to the [...]

Emotions connected to the family are obvious tear-jerkers. I don't know any man, however stoic he may be, who doesn't blub like a girl at the end of The Railway Children, when Jenny Agutter sees her father through the smoke on the station platform, and cries "Daddy, my daddy!" Few theatre-goers in history have been able to cope with the last act of King Lear, when the storm-ravaged monarch re-encounters...

Our Netflix BBC DVD had two Ibsen plays on it, and the other night someone I know and this blogger took a look at the 1971 television adaptation of The Wild Duck , starring a young Denholm Elliott and Jenny Agutter. It was really good, too, a nice compantion to the BBC production of An Enemy of the People. . One can see why Eugene O'Neill paid frequent homage to Ibsen. The themes of pipe dreams, alcoholism,...

Having a case of bronchitis isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world. Of course, it could turn into pneumonia, which would, naturally, be worse, but at least my bronchitis has kept me up-to-date on some overdue film viewing (and equally overdue sleep). Though my bank account is looking pretty measly as a result of not working, I can at least pride myself in this continuing self-education. I don't...

Rap star EMINEM has won over an unlikely fan - 55-year-old British actress JENNY AGUTTER. The Railway Children star is a big admirer of the Without Me rapper, likening him to the iconic 16th century English playwright William Shakespeare. She says, "I do have a soft spot for Eminem and I really like good rap. I started [...]
