"Producers Sigurjon Sighvatsson and Michael De Luca both saw a movie that would work in America, with a war still raging in Afghanistan. They thought the central brother drama would travel. But take a carefully wrought naturalistic drama shot with hand-held digital cameras and add an American writer, Irish director and Hollywood movie stars to the equation, and a delicately calibrated souffle...

HBO has never shied from the topic of gender transformation. In 2003, Normal told the story of Roy Applewood, a male character who wanted to become female. Tom Wilkinson , who played Roy, and Jessica Lange , who played his wife Irma, both received Emmy nods for their roles. (Yes, that’s little Hayden Panettiere .) Now the cable network will explore FTM transition in a new drama series called...

A delightful discussion of the great performances of the best year in the history of film making. I don't agree with every appraisal (I didn't like most of the American Beauty performances nearly as much as this author did), but he covers most of those which need to be recognized from that year. Though some are missing, like Jessica Lange in Titus.

How things can change for the Phillies in one year. Instead of playing like defending champs, Philly whimpers to the finish line with a 7-3 Game 6 loss to the Yanks. Talk about going from champs to chumps, Mike Freeman says.

While we wait with bated breath for Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic to announce their choice to host the 2010 Oscars, we've been devoting some time to thinking about what sort of elements from other awards shows the good people at AMPAS could incorporate into their presentation this year. And of course, our minds immediately flashed back to John Hodgman's hilariously wry work as a color commentator...

The Greenwich Village restaurant-cabaret that inspired MAE WEST 's play " The Drag " has closed. During 2006, there was a glorious exhibition here: " Onstage Outlaws: Mae West and Texas Guinan in a Lawless Decade ." The attendees included Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard, who were thoroughly fascinated by this history-based exhibit. • • Mae West worked on this gay drama-comedy...

The original “King Kong” is a classic untouched by time and now antiquated special effects. The 2005 remake by Peter Jackson delivered dizzying visuals but suffered from a serious case of bloat. So where does that leave the 1976 version, the one which gave us a nubile Jessica Lange and the image of a great ape astride [...] Related posts: WWTW Rewind - ‘The Eiger Sanction’ WWTW...

A couple of days ago, I picked up a movie called Masked and Anonymous for about £2. I'd never heard of it, yet it had an incredible cast: Bob Dylan Jeff Bridges John Goodman Penelope Cruz Jessica Lange Plus short appearences from Val Kilmer, Ed Harris, Mickey Rourke I was left sorely dissapointed, the film was muddled and boring, although Dylan himself was a strangely enthralling screen presence....

Hey folks. in Chicago here.Drew Barrymore has been starring in movies almost as long as I've been paying attention to them seriously. And it's still difficult for me to grasp that she's only 34 and has been making films (beginning with 1980's ALTERED STATES) for nearly 30 years. As a child, she tended to get cast in genre works, including E.T.: THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL, FIRESTARTER, and CAT'S EYE. But...
