Jim Carrey was on Chelsea Lately last night to promote A Christmas Carol, which was the number one film this past weekend. It will probably continue to dominate the box office in coming weeks, so much so that Jim Carrey probably didn’t need to stop by and talk to Chelsea Handler. I think [...]

A Christmas Carol wasn't as big of a box office take as insiders anticipated but it was still a box office win for Jim Carrey and Walt Disney. The film made $30 million as it opened in first place but it didn't do as well as Carrey's other Christmas film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas . Michael Jackson's This Is It came in second and made $13 million. The Men Who Stare at Goats opened in third and...

Actor Jim Carrey shared a personal story with reporters just as his career was taking off. Carrey once wrote a check to himself for $10 million, “for acting services rendered,” and slipped it in his wallet as a motivational tool. Years later, he would cash checks twice that size, thanks to the heady mix of capitalism and [...] Related posts: Why so many Christmas movies tank Carrey hanging...

Following America's amusing rejection of both Jim Carrey and Christmas over the weekend, Disney Studios president (and a 29-year Disney vet) Mark Zoradi stepped down last night. It was apparently part of the company's ongoing restructuring that already cost chairman Dick Cook his job in September and effectively shuttered Miramax. According to insiders, Zoradi's ouster was unrelated to the soft $30...

There were countless reasons to be skeptical of Disney's A Christmas Carol. Firstly, it was another conventional take on Dicken's 'classic' (i.e. ridiculously overplayed) Christmas tale - and the world needs a new 'Christmas Carol' movie about as much as it needs another ice-age! There are already no less than 26 'faithful' movie adaptations of A Christmas Carol and countless spoofs and imitations...

LOS ANGELES – Technology finally has caught up with Charles Dickens' imagination. Jim Carrey and Robert Zemeckis' new take on "A Christmas Carol" brings to life the fantasy about miser Ebenezer Scrooge's holiday redemption in a way old Hollywood never could have dreamed. Animated adaptations have captured some of Dickens' flights of fancy and fantastic imagery, while the best live-action versions have...

LOS ANGELES – Hollywood loves money. So does Ebenezer Scrooge. So what better way to launch the holiday season than putting the old money-grubber at the head of the line to separate movie-goers from their cash? The latest version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" features Jim Carrey as Scrooge. Coming on Ebenezer's coattails will be everything from vampire romance ("The Twilight Saga: New Moon")...
