Finally a controller only the great Andre the Giant could comfortably handle. Inspired directly by Kyle Downes’ NES coffee table, Matt LaBoone worked all summer on this impressively gigantic SNES controller. I can’t imagine having a group of friends sitting around this thing each contributing their part to one button as they mash away while [...]
Matt LaBoone writes us - I was inspired by Kyle Downes (creator of the Giant NES coffee table) to make my own SNES Controller. I grew up more on the SNES, and figured that the Left and Right bumpers as well as the curved sides would give me a good challenge. I linked the pictures of the final controller, but I have 3 other posts documenting my progress pictures. I love the MAKE blog btw, I check it...
How can a giant NES pad table be any cooler? Turn it into a real working controller which is exactly what Kyle Downes did with some free time. (Imagine hitting a 3.5 inch wide A and B buttons repeatedly, you can get wrist cramps from that. . .) Here's a video from Kyle detailing the construction of the unit:

Excellently, it doubles up as a trunk in which Kyle stores his games collection....
Despite his lack of woodworking experience, Kyle Downes managed to craft himself a gorgeous coffee table fashioned after a classic NES controller. It even has a storage area for Kyle's other gaming paraphernalia. Not enough to impress you? Then how...
