The Last Word

This is the last of my Christmas stories for the night. I'm getting closer to declaring my other computer repaired, and as soon as I'm done there, I hope to get a new share or two up this evening. In the meantime, here is Loretta Young- The Littlest Angel and Gregory Peck- Lullaby Of Christmas (Decca DLP 8009, 1949). You can read all about this at the original post here .

“If it’s a man kid it’ll never grow up.”

Jon Kricfalusi would love these off-model Mickey Mices. MAN’S CASTLE is a neatly double-edged title, since Spencer Tracy, the titular male, starts the film as apparently self-confident and indomitable, the kind of guy who creates a feudal estate out of any surroundings, but by the end of the picture his insecurity and immaturity have been firmly [...]

Oscar Profiles: Katharine Hepburn in Morning Glory

Best Actress winner 1933"I know I speak so nondescriptly," Eva Lovelace says at one point, which caused me to chortle, because in this early-career, first-Oscar performance, Katharine Hepburn could have benefitted from a little more nondescriptness. She's a naive, fledgling...

Women in Film (The best YouTube Evah!)

I posted that short video extract a couple days ago (The Greatest Movie Line ever..."Ghost Breakers") and sort of felt bad that I didn't even recognize Bob freakin' Hope. Weak in the movie-fu know-who. There may be something to say for that, but Bob Hope? Sheesh. But this famous YouTube "Women in Film" will test even the best and most knowledgeable movie fan. I know a few; my wife knows many.

Tonight's Movie: Second Honeymoon (1937)

SECOND HONEYMOON is an engaging piece of nonsense which finds Tyrone Power and Loretta Young wishing for a SECOND HONEYMOON. The movie begins in promising fashion with Ty and Loretta embracing on a moonlit balcony. We soon learn, however, that they are divorced; Loretta is now married to a staid businessman (Lyle Talbot), but secretly seems to be pining for Husband No. 1, who is clearly interested...
