The University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts celebrates James Bond this weekend in the Norris Theatre. Nine Bond films will be screened, with all of the actors who played James Bond -- even George Lazenby -- represented by at least one film. The films to be shown include my favorite Bond movie, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. I've since seen and appreciated all of the Connery Bonds, but THE...

I watched The Man With The Golden Gun yesterday for the first time in years. Not one of the better Bond movies: too much lazy humour and cheesiness ( especially from Roger Moore, of course ). The film's saving graces for me were the legendary Christopher Lee, as suave and sophisticated as ever, playing extra-nippled master assassin Scaramanga, and also the following two gorgeous actresses: Britt Ekland...

One of the best casts, arguably the single best gadget, and the usual fine picture, sound and extras make for another must-have Bond Blu-ray.

Roger Moore's stint as secret agent James Bond 007 began inauspiciously. His debut in the role, 'Live and Let Die', made a respectable introduction for the actor, if little more. The film allowed Moore...

For your reading pleasure, I recommend Roger Moore's 2008 memoir My Word Is My Bond . The celebrity dish is pretty mild. (Tony Curtis smoking pot outside 10 Downing Street; dying David Niven getting brutalized by his drunken wife; Frank Sinatra proving himself a mensch; Moore's presenter's-eye view as Sacheen Littlefeather fights the last of the Apache Wars .) But it's a reliable index-reader's delight...

Even without including Lincoln (and Darwin) today deserves national holiday status. It’s the birthday of Bill Russell for heaven’s sake! And Omar Bradley. Bill Russell is 75. Back-to-back NCAA championships at the University of San Francisco, 1955-1956 — 55 consecutive wins. Eleven NBA championships with the Celtics in 13 years, [...]

I’m watching Octopussy. It’s one of the worst Bond films (which means it’s still much better than a LOT of other films), but has there ever been a better film title? On another note, isn’t it kind of sad that Maud Adams, who plays Octopussy, showed up in A View to a Kill two years later as an uncredited member of a crowd?
