Have we seen the last cinematic adaptation of Ian McEwan's works? It seems that the author, pictured, whose novel Atonement was turned into a multi-award-winning film starring Keira Knightley in 2007, was left severely underwhelmed by his experience with the silver screen.

The last feature made about Joan of Arc in the 20th century is typical of the time. Cynical and based on pop psychology, The Messenger (1999) does a disservice to France's national heroine.
