Comic book adaptations are notoriously difficult to achieve with exceptional results. The two outstanding contributions to the cinematic world of superhero films are Sam Raimi's Spiderman series and Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy. Chris Nolan's Batman Begins is serviceable (granted, to many it is an exceptional film), and Bryan Singer's X-Men flicks work on at least a mechanical level....

Layer Cake and Stardust director Matthew Vaughn does not have very good luck when it comes to superheroes. He was attached to direct X3 once Bryan Singer decided he was going to to Superman Returns . The studio and Vaughn couldn't make this happen so we got Brett Ratner and a Wolverine who told jokes. Vaughn was scheduled to make another Marvel movie for Thor (scheduled for a summer 2010...

Interestingly, director Bryan Singer ( Valkyrie ) had plans (and still may) to adapt the story, calling it The Mayor of Castro Street instead, lead by Steve Carell, but it appears Van Sant beat him to it. And beat him to it good. Thoughts so far on Milk ? Discover More: First Look , Movie News

... Brett Ratner didn't have a lot of credibility going in to the third X-Men movie, but I think Bryan Singer [who directed the first two installments] got a free pass on Superman Returns because of his work on X-Men.The original report was replaced by the following: In a blog post that appeared May 2 on bbook.com, some quotations by the subject Josh Schwartz were erroneously reported....

Here are my five choices of the greatest superhero duds of all time.Shaquille O'Neal channels Scrapheap Challenge to create his own superhero. What could possibly go wrong? Not part of Bryan Singer's X-Men series (or, for that matter, anything to do with Douglas Coupland), but a 1996 made-for-TV spin-off effort for Fox that tried to turn the mutants into an MTV-era teen movie, with a special-effects...

We all know that Lions for Lambs pretty much bombed, and there is talk that his performance in Bryan Singer’s Valkyrie is laughably bad and one of the reasons why it got delayed until next year. On the other hand, Mission: Impossible 3 still did okay (heck, better than okay, it made $397 worldwide) and it seems like one of the only reliable things Tom Cruise can count on right now. This...

Self-Made Heroes The Smackdown. It's been a dark time for comic book movies since Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" and Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns." Over the past two years, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," "X-Men: The Last Stand," and "Spider-Man 3" raised red flags with audiences and critics alike: is the comic book movie Golden Age finally imploding upon itself?...
