Highly Recommended The Movie Late in Missing , director Costa-Gavras' unbearably sad, righteously angry English-language debut, Jack Lemmon, playing the role of Ed Horman, starts down a staircase after exiting an American ambassador's office. Oblivious to his surroundings, he continues up another staircase for a few steps, realizes where he is and turns around to descend in the proper direction. It's...

Reviewer: Jeffrey M. Anderson Rating (out of 5): *** The Greek-born director Constantin Costa-Gavras usually signs his films with only "Costa-Gavras," as if he were creating a brand name for political thrillers. The thriller part invites audiences to have...

"The Godfather" was supposed to be terrible. Mario Puzo wrote the book for money; the studio wanted a quick gangster film; the director, Francis Ford Coppola, didn't want to do it. How the film, now out on a cleaned-up DVD, became one of the greatest of all time is a fascinating story.
