A doodle by designer and drummer Sam Smith . His giant-cat motif in this poster for the Japanese film House is actually inspired; he's been doing it a while for Nashville's arthouse, The Belcourt .

Lars Von Trier director of the latest film to inspire me(Dogville) also wrote and directed the 2009 film ‘Antichrist’; a controversial film to some people and was to my eyes until now just another one of those ‘one-up’ films to come out of the Hollywood horror market, but I may pay a bit more attention to it now, but I am still wary of it. It’s hard to find favourite directors...

Written and Directed By Lars Von Trier, A man who I am now showing a considerable more attention to, Dogville is quite astonishingly and indescribably the best film of its kind I have ever seen, in fact it seems to have opened my mind to recognise it as a whole different and standalone film separate from other kinds of film and certainly alone from any other (like I said) I have ever seen. The most...

The EFAs are only 20 years old, a novice awards organization really, but their prizes offer up a rich variety of films, languages and genres. It's truly a grab bag and, if you're too Oscar focused, their prizes can be head scratching. Their 2009 Best Picture Nominees encompass three years worth of U.S. release dates: (2008) Slumdog Millionaire, Let the Right One In and The Reader (2009) The White Ribbon...

From Pops Corn, OTBKB's film critic, a reaction to the new Lars von Trier movie. I recently saw my friend Joey perform with his band in Manhattan. After the show, Joey told me that he was his own favorite musical artist. He knew how conceited this sounded, but his own work just really appeals to him and he really likes what he does. If only more of us felt this way. One who apparently does is Dutch...

He is a therapist played by Willem Dafoe. She was a scholar working on a thesis about witchcraft who is inhabited by Charlotte Gainsbourg. They are the tormented souls at the center of "Antichrist," Lars Von Trier's masterful and cruel allegory about a couple who returns to a cabin in the woods called Eden after the loss of their young son.

Precious features plenty of off-putting images and attitudes, beginning with the movie’s straight-out-of-Rush-Limbaugh’s-nightmares vision of lazy welfare queens, and ending with the way the film seems to wallow in inner-city misery. It isn’t enough that director Lee Daniels and screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher (working from a controversial bestseller by Sapphire) present teenager...

Lars von Trier's provocative ad poster for his equally controversial film "Antichrist" has escaped a ban from U.K. advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) amidst complaints that it was pornographic. The ad features a man and a woman having sex on the foot of a tree. It carried a warning that the film "contains strong real sex, bloody violence and self-mutilation."...

Lars von Trier's doggedly outrageous, fearsomely ambitious two-hander is so desperate to make you feel something — if only a terrible sensation of nothingness — that it's almost poignant. Most simply put, Antichrist revels in the gruesome ordeal of a bereaved couple (Willem Daf...

Few actors can boast that they have acted in films by Otto Preminger ( Anatomy of a Murder ), John Cassavetes ( five films ), Joel and Ethan Coen ( The Big Lebowski ), Spike Lee ( Summer of Sam ) and Lars von Trier ( Dogville ), among many others.
