Just saw Speed Racer. It was as colorful as I could have imagined. The end race sequence was exciting enough to get me to forget I spent the first 3/5 of the movie bored out of my skull. The casting was excellent (thanks for not using Keanu as Speed Racer. I [...]

If you're not going out this weekend to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, maybe you'll want some reading material. (Or you could go see a recent release like Iron Man - but skip Speed Racer, in case you're expecting it to be as good as the Wachowski Brothers' earlier effort, The Matrix.) It's still arguable whether or not bloggers are generally opinionated, but some are definitely...

... that had seeped into the themes of films from acclaimed filmmakers like David Cronenberg and the Wachowski brothers. Clear examples of Dick's influence can be seen and experienced in films like eXistenZ and The Matrix. Perhaps the most famous of Dick's works is the novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which is the weighty source material for Sir Ridley Scott's sci-fi cult...

... in multiplexes two weeks after Jon Favreau's 'Iron Man" adaptation and just one week after the Wachowski Brothers’ "Speed Racer" (with next week bringing the much anticipated "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"). That doesn't give "Prince Caspian" much time to win over the hearts and wallets of the moviegoing public, but even if they don't, fans of C.S. Lewis’ series...

S hortly after the release of THE MATRIX in 1999, The Wachowski brothers commissioned a group of top japanese artists and animators to create and produce nine original short films based on the film for a special OVA. (original video animation) T he ANIMATRIX demonstrated once again why the japanese are light years ahead of their north-american counterparts in terms of vision and progressing...

... the train wreck — excuse me, the flaming car wreck – that is Speed Racer . What a disaster for the Wachowski brothers, not to mention Warner Brothers! Turns out that the “second-place, $20 million dollar gross” figure that was released on the weekend was one final attempt at spin by the WB studios, as Speed Racer actually ended up third at $18.6 million dollars!! That's right,...

Just when it seemed that the trend of creating live-action film adaptations of animated television shows was starting to wane, along comes Speed Racer , the Wachowski Brothers' attempt at bringing a classic anime to life. After the seemingly tragic death of his brother Rex Racer, Speed Racer (Emil Hirsch) is determined to be the best race car driver out there. When he nearly breaks...

I took time out to go and watch Speed Racer at the IMAX in Waterloo with my friend Taey. The film is an adaption of a Japanese anime franchise Mach GoGoGo known in the US as Speed Racer. This has been reimagined into a live-action film by The Wachowski Brothers, famous for The Matrix and the live-action adaption of Alan Moore’s V for Vendetta. The film is supposed be the brothers entree...

... Speed's early years, where we learn the source of his intense determination for racer success: his brother, Rex Racer. Rex becomes a racing legend, only to die in a mysterious blast. The movie also introduces Speed's family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie, who has been with Speed since his childhood. Speed's father, Pops Racer, is also the designer of Speed's Mach 5, a car that would see...

We dodged that bullet. Now, I don't have the same dislike of Frank Miller that other folks do. But in the world of “wrong visionary to helm a space opera” Miller is about as wrong as you can get. It would be like getting the Wachowski Brothers to helm a Speed Racer movie-what? That has [...]

... Stealth Bombers fooled the Radars). I’ve just returned home from watching the late show of The Wachowski Brother’s Speed Racer. I used to watch the Speed Racer animated series on TV back in the mid-nineties as a schoolboy and I admit to being a sort of a fan of the series (my favorite being Jonny Quest). I am also an avid follower of The Brothers Wachowski and...

The age of remakes/reboots continues unabated, with the release of the Wachowski brothers' interpretation of the cult Sixties anime Speed Racer. Somewhat conveniently, along with the usual videogame and action figure tie-ins, a new animated series comes along, ready to introduce a whole new generation to the world of Speed Racer.

My inner Mike Gundy told me this movie featuring a character played by Milkalicious was going to be "Garbage!" Evidently, so did yours. The summer of 2008 is only two weeks old, and it already has its first flop. Speed Racer, the Wachowski Brothers' kaleidoscopic retelling of the classic cartoon series, got stuck in neutral this weekend, grossing a mere $20.2 million, according to Sunday's...

The last two Matrix movies sucked. V sucked. No, I don't plan on seeing Speed Racer. I'm done with the Wachowski Brothers. At least these days, with digital recording technology, you can't say they're wasting film. Just energy. Lots and lots of energy.
