I’m going to start off this edition of Box Office Buzz with Up ‘s latest huge accomplishment. The movie about and old man who pursued his final dream has now become the second highest grossing Pixar movie surpassing The Incredibles. Those who may not know much about Pixar’s box office history might be thinking, so what if it’s second, why not first? Well Pixar’s top grosser...

's (NASDAQ: NWS ) new computer cartoon, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs , had a strong domestic debut this past Wednesday. It opened with $13.8 million on that day, which represents a record-breaking performance for an animated feature released in the middle of the week. Now, just recently, I mentioned how I hate it...
LOS ANGELES — Prehistoric creatures and robots were in a photo finish for the Fourth of July box-office crown Sunday, with "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" tied with $42.5 million each. Final numbers Monday will sort out which movie actually came in first, Paramount's "Transformers" or 20th Century Fox's "Ice Age."...

Actually, it was a week ago and we had a birthday party for him on the Saturday before but he has been asking about his birthday every day since then. This is how his birthday morning began: Aedan wakes up. Us: “Happy Birthday Aedan!” Him: “Thanks! Are my friends all downstairs'” Me:...

Second viewing of this, and I loved it both times. Cute escapist story and great pixar animation. Slightly let down by having American accents on some of the characters when they are suppose to be French while other do have French accents - it would have worked with French for everyone except Anton Ego, who was perfect as he was. Both times left me feeling hungry for some decent food. Recommended
Based on studio estimates released Sunday afternoon, "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" topped the Fourth of July weekend box office with an estimated $42.5 million each, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com It's unlikely that the two movies finished with exactly the same take at the box office, so a winner should emerge when final numbers are released...
Ok will not lie. When I first saw the ads for this movie, I wasn't terribly thrilled to see it. And I was thinking, it's not going to be hit. I don't know why I do this because every single time Pixar proves me wrong. Ratatouille , Wall-E, Can that company do no wrong? I BAWLED during this movie. Honestly it's one of the saddest/funniest movies I've ever seen in theaters. The entire silent montage...
So I was bored earlier on today, and decided to look for a film to watch online. Hitting up TvShack , the first thing that caught my eye was Pixar's 'Up'. Pixar stuff is usually good, geared to audiences of all ages (mostly), so I thought I'd give it a watch. It's a brilliant film, but fuck me is it depressing in places. I won't spoil anything, but, christy . The films about 85 minutes long, and I...
I could barely make out Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's voice as the lead, but Sony Tristar's holiday cartoon offering seems to have a little of the Dreamworks (gags) touch, a hint of the Pixar sheen. It's not really grabbing me,...
If the tremendous box-office success that Pixar has had with movies like Ratatouille, The Incredibles, WallE , and Up provides heartening proof that a studio that animated films with sophisticated,...
Steve Stanchfield of Thunderbean Animation is profiled at Greenbriar Picture Shows. Steve has lovingly put together a series of DVDs of public domain material from various studios. Where most public domain releases are done on the cheap, Steve puts enormous effort into finding the best materials and creating extras. I heartily endorse his products. Spline Doctors has posted a podcast with Pete Docter...
In the case of this Up Round-Up I had planned on writing separate posts for each of these articles but they’re so related that I can’t help but to make a conglomerate post. Ricky Nierva on Designing Up: Creating a world from scratch is a tough job, just ask Up Production Designer Ricky Nierva! In his latest interview , he tackles such questions as why Pixar is so successful and if he wants...
Marshall Fine i nterviews Chris Wedge, the Big Man of Blue Sky: ...“The differences [between Pixar and Blue Sky features] are pretty apparent to the audience,” Wedge says. “It all depends on what audience you’re making the film for. With the first ‘Ice Age,’ we were making it mostly to entertain ourselves. When we saw the audience was into it, we fine-tuned it. But...
Carl Fredricksen, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. From the Academy Award®-nominated director Pete
From there he has to make his way home with the help of a manky old cat and an overweight hamster in a plastic ball. Animated features intended for families come in two varieties: films with personality and a genuine sense of humor, and films in which characters stand around cracking jokes like they were doing stand-up in the Catskills. The former used to be the exclusive property of Pixar, but that
despite even its modest 3-D depth. This has become the Pixar way. Passages of glorious imagination are invariably matched by stock characters and banal story choices, as each new movie becomes another
