Back at home this weekend, something which is becoming more regular. I went up north early yesterday with S.H with Stag Rocks our intended destination. We had a quick and optimistic check of Hulne Park for Hawfinch on the way up but we were soon told to leave as a hunt was taking place at the park. Before going to Stag we checked Budle Bay where the tide was out. A flock of Pink Footed Geese flew over...

Just look what happens when you type Goldeneye into Google images - bloody Pierce Brosnon everywhere. I wonder if Google would produce an entire gallery of ducks if you typed Goldeneye when searching for the film? Anyway, enough of derivative talkies produced by creativity-challenged Hollywood players, what about the birds? I took a trip to Shotwick rifle range pools this evening - a pair of female...

After being stuck with a feeling that after an, attempted, good deed I had somehow trapped an old lady in the top floor of WHSmiths to wander around in the stationary, thankfully I've seen her wandering Leicester street. Having been rather busy the last few weeks with a new job which is good, when not having people attempt to kick me in the shins, but does leave me rather tired at the end of the day...

Not Quite Scilly (Free subscription) | 11/07/2009
My recent efforts in this direction have not been all that pro-active, it must be said. Take Pintail , for example. I don't know how many texts I have received this year telling me about Pintails here, there and everywhere, and eventually I was able to respond to one, and connect. The point is: why wasn't I out there finding my own? I've also been doing far too much lying in bed of a morning. This...

Monday October 2 Having arranged to meet Bridge and Aileen at Titchwell, we were delighted to rise on a beautiful sunny morning with little wind. We spent all morning at the reserve, walking as far as the sea for the first time since the earth bank, across the brackish pool, was raised where Parrinder used to be. Several birds to add to yesterday's list including Avocets and a Spot Red on the first...

One man and his Pond (Free subscription) | 11/06/2009
Both Bob Hazel and Max Silverman are my hero’s at the pond today. Its been a pretty poor week at the pond and the weather was not that enticing this morning but with Bobs persistent he came up trumps with a Great-northern Diver today and Max probably got a few of Warwickshire’s listers out this afternoon with a Purple Sandpiper by the outlet. I sure would have love to have seen the purple...

Aldcliffe 09.00 – 11.00, SSE 7-10, 7 oktas, First time to the patch for a while, weather was looking dodgy, thankfully apart from a light shower it kept fine. A noticeable increase in Lapwing numbers since the last WeBS count which is good news, lets hope for at least same again over the coming weeks. This time last year the Wildfowlers’ was more like a shallow lake and had good numbers...

Neill Foster and I spent some time at Foxcote Reservoir mid morning, and saw the adult drake RING-NECKED DUCK heading into the hidden corner, also pair of PINTAIL and female Goldeneye plus usual range of other Duck. Visited Calvert on the way home and watched the first-winter RED-NECKED GREBE on the BBOWT Lake from the second hide ( John Gearing )

Older gamers will have fond memories of Nintendo’s N64 console, which brought timeless game franchises such as Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart 64, and GoldenEye to life. While the N64 passed its prime over two console generations ago, an iPhone App maker may just breathe some life into it by creating an N64 emulator for [...]

NOVEMBER 2009 SUNDAY 1 NOVEMBER Heavy rain persisted throughout the morning along with blustery WNW winds making birding conditions very unpleasant. It finally cleared early morning with brighter conditions following, although the wind still remained strong. Temperatures struggled to 15 degrees C. Despite an excellent Saturday where rare wildfowl was the main theme and a dapper male Black Redstart...
