Carla Gugino has spent the better part of the last decade playing some of the most complicated and interesting female characters in Hollywood. After early roles in lighthearted fare like Son in Law , she played an appropriately combative counterpart for Michael J. Fox's deputy Mayor on Spin City before appearing in Wayne Wang's The Center of the World as a troubled seductress, Robert Rodriguez' Sin...

Another great, supposedly "unfilmable" novel (besides Watchmen), is Cormac McCarthy's break out 1985 novel Blood Meridian. If you're not familiar with McCarthy, he's the author who wrote the novels that were turned into All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old Men, and now The Road. Blood Meridian is a critically acclaimed novel, set in the 1850s, about American mercenaries hunting Indians...

Pretty sad news, at least for me and I know a lot of you were looking forward to this... It coulda been great! J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof — two of the key dudes behind "Lost" — were set to adapt Stephen King's sci-fi/fantasy opus, "The Dark Tower," for the big screen. Such a seamless fit between material and filmmakers — it coulda be great, but it ain't gonna...

Paramount has issued a press release gloating that Paranormal Activity has just passed $100 million domestically. And they should gloat, with a film that was made for only $15,000, and purchased by Paramount for either $300,000 or $350,000, depending on what report you read. You can try to figure out the multiplier on that, but any way you add it up, it's probably the most successful investment in...

Carla Gugino, who played Sally Jupiter/Silk Spectre in Zack Snyder's Watchmen , is back in Snyder's upcoming fantasy action movie Sucker Punch , playing a psychiatrist in an asylum—and an alternate-universe dominatrix version of the character. Sucker Punch is Snyder's original story of girls in a 1960s asylum who lead a dual life in an action-packed alternate reality. Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish,...

I'm still not sure why Watchmen was pilloried by so many. Considering how many adaptations are butchered by filmmakers, it was refreshing to see how closely Zack Snyder adhered to the source material by Alan Moore (except for, of course, the ending). Sure it may have been a little obtuse for people unfamiliar with the graphic novel, but so what, right? Anyway, today's DVD release is a treasure trove...

A frequently commented article around the site is a post I wrote back in September 2008 when the idea of a seven film adaptation of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series was floated. The total comments on the article have reached 180 and some of them are long, long, long as it is obvious there is [...]

The CW’s sexy creepy Supernatural kicked off its fifth and possibly final apocalyptic season last Thursday, and one question hangs in every fan’s mind: Will we see the return of John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the hellbound dad of demon hunters Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles)?
