(S04E06) This episode was a rare star-studded treat for Venture Bros. Really honing in on the idea of adult aftermath in the lives of boy adventurer types, Jackson Publick introduced a robot boy, boy detective brothers (Seth Green and John Hodgman), former Wonder Boy (Patton Oswalt) and the return of Action Johnny (Brendon Small). Never before have so many guest voices (okay, four) been crammed into...

The National Post has said, perhaps better than I would, what I find so offputting about Macintosh's "Get a Mac" ad campaign. "You can't help but get sick of any ad campaign that's this ubiquitous -- it's on all the time," says Simon DuMenco, media columnist for Advertising Age. "Even Seinfeld ran out of steam." What seems to be gaining speed on its hip American counterpart...

Apple has deployed a new Get a Mac ad, this time directed not at TV audiences but at YouTube viewers. Mac (Justin Long) and PC (John Hodgman) stand at one side of the front page, watching security camera footage at the top showing former PC users entering Apple Stores. The people are switching [...]

The company that made its bread on Web advertising has a new idea: let users skip the ads they don't like seeing. Google is testing the new "skippable" pre-roll video ads on selected partners' YouTube clips, according to PaidContent . Right now, in-video YouTube ads consist of semi-transparent textual banners that slide up below a video, and which can be clicked off. Playing video ads before...

Apple would argue that Microsoft has been ripping off its Mac OS GUI ever since Windows was first introduced, a notion Microsoft has dismissed on more than one occasion. That being the case, we're willing to bet the Redmond company isn't too thrilled that one of its managers is flapping his gums about Windows 7 taking a liberal cue from Mac OS X. "One of the things that people say an awful lot...

Quick spoilers for last night's "Bored to Death" season finale coming up just as soon as I role-play Nosferatu... "You think we learned anything tonight?" -Jonathan "No. But that's okay. It's good to stay in the dark about things. Keeps life interesting." -George As that exchange suggests, there really isn't a whole lot of depth to "Bored to Death," but in episodes...

All of you who were hoping that Vulture hero Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as the dashing host of the Oscars were dealt a minor blow on Tuesday when it was announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are going to tag-team the duties (after Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Tina Fey all turned AMPAS down). This got the self-described "lucky" Alec off the hook with his daughter Ireland,...

I guess I went into Drag Me to Hell with expectations set too high. It's the sort of movie you expected Sam Raimi to make 20 (or even 30 years) ago. You get the gonzo funny gore, like a demon puking up a kitten, and the unstoppable evil, as in Evil Dead. It just doesn't add up to much. Justin Long is in it and I have a hard time watching him without expecting John Hodgman to show up. And he doesn't....

Moderator John Hodgman noted that one of these people resembled a "drowned ghostly ship's captain." We'll leave it to you to figure out who. Although HBO has been widely praised (and rightly so) for their ability to cultivate hour-long, original dramas that strike a cultural chord, they haven't had quite the same record in developing half-hour comedies. For every bold success like Curb Your...
