by Marc-Oliver Frisch More “Blackest Night” and more Batman make September another good month for DC Comics’ periodical business. This year’s retelling of Superman’s origin doesn’t set the charts on fire, on the other hand, despite the big-ticket creative team of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank — maybe it’s time to retire the character. In other [...]
…And only two weeks left to order. “Batman fans recognize that nothing like this has ever been created and we’ve received orders from around the globe,” says David Pea, owner of Universal Designs, which is producing the screen-accurate Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit under license from Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Comics. UD Replicas, the [...]
Geoff Boucher at the LA Times does a good job convincing people that screenwriter/director/producer Akiva Goldsman, given his other, more recent achievements, should be forgiven for writing the script to BATMAN & ROBIN—a movie so wretched it singlehandedly made Hollywood realize that if they kept making superhero movies this bad, the planet would crumble [...]
In the spirit of superhero fashion shoots, here’s one by Thierry Le Gouès, which includes model Ali Stephens and a guy in a Batman costume, which ran in the French magazine, Revue de Modes. Thanks to Jim D. for the link. Meanwhile, the NY Times reports on a superhero-themes line of clothing going on sale at [...]
This weekend, at the Long Beach Comic-Con, DC Comics announced The Outsiders series would have a new creative team in January 2010. Taking over for Peter Tomasi would be none other than Executive Editor Dan DiDio. Joining him would be current Batman and Robin artist Philip Tan.
by Marc-Oliver Frisch August was another fairly strong month for DC Comics’ periodical output, mainly thanks to the continued success of the Green Lantern and Batman franchises. With Blackest Night #2, Batman and Robin #3, Green Lantern #45 and Blackest Night: Batman #1, the publisher again managed to place four of its DC Universe titles in [...]
“Legends of the Superheroes” was a (Thank God) short-lived variety show that showcased various members of the DC universe. Of course you had Batman, Robin, Captain Marvel, Green Lantern, Black Canary and even Hawkman, but in one episode (only two were made), Ed McMahon introduced the JLA to a lesser-known superhero: Ghetto Man, played by [...]
Superhero team-ups have been a grand tradition in the comic book industry fro decades now. And which two heroes are more prone to holding hands and clobbering bad guys than Superman and Batman? These days Batman is just as likely to punch Superman in the face with a Kryptonite boxing glove, but they never seem to stop spending time together.
Batman: Cacophony Writer: Kevin Smith Artist: Walt Flanagan Inker: Sandra Hope Published by DC Comics Hardcover, 142 pages, $19.99 As he throws out one self-deprecating line after another, Kevin Smith can make what he does look easy but it would be a mistake to dismiss what he’s done with Batman: Cacophony. In his introduction, he readily admits he can [...]
Batman: Gotham Underground (DC Comics) I passed on this when it was originally serialized, as I wasn’t reading Countdown, and it was a tie-in to a Countdown tie-in (Salvation Run), but I’ve found I’m much less picky about the comics I read when I borrow their trade collections from a library as opposed to paying [...]

Sometimes "camp" just seems to work, the 1960's Batman series wasn't exactly the Dark Knight at his best, but it was at least fun to watch and "kids" from those years still fondly recall Adam West and Burt Ward as the Caped Crusaders. The same can be said for the 1980 film version of Flash Gordon , based on the old comic strips and early Hollywood matinee serials. Max Von Sydow...
