Comics Should Be Good! (Free subscription) | 07/21/2008
Top Five Month continues with a slightly different list. This time, I’m just counting which X-Men have appeared on the most covers of the X-Men titles (Uncanny X-Men #1-66,94-499, X-Men #1-207, X-Treme X-Men #1-46, Astonishing X-Men #1-25 and all the Annuals of those books). Would the huge lead the original five have be enough to [...]

CBR has the covers to this months' X-Men #500 - including a nice one of some prominent X-Ladies: Nice work as always from Terry Dodson, who apparently didn't read the end of Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run, since Kitty Pryde is cheerfully phasing through the floor of the team's new home. Then again as Psylocke's off dimension-hopping in New Exiles I guess it's more symbolic than anything else -...

I was cheerfully reading Astonishing x-Men 25, the new Warren Ellis & Simone Bianchi (must get review done later. Maybe) when this caught my eye: Wolverine - Origins # 27 Twenty Seven? Twenty bloody seven? That's not an origin, that's an entire life story. I've no idea what it's about now, but surely you can all see the ridiculous nature of an origin series getting to it's 27th issue?

I'm in a bit of a quandary. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Warren Ellis, but this last week's first issue of his and Simone Bianchi's run on Astonishing X-Men was....well, not that astonishing. What I wanted was a genuine Warren Ellis TM take on the mutant mainstays, a step beyond the norm - kind of what he did on Excalibur way back when. Maybe not as 'out there' and disjointed as his work on...
