Toronto-born designer Calla Haynes played debutante at the most recent Paris Fashion Week: After working for Olivier Theyskens (at Rochas and Nina Ricci) and designing textiles for Jeremy Laing and Erin Featherston, the mistress of digital-impressionist prints has gone solo. Her water-coloured spring collection is fresh and elegant, mixing corsetry with airier shapes. And there’s [...]

As relaxes in the Hamptons (like Helmut Lang did when he left his name-sake label), or tends to his garden (a la Jil Sander), there must be interviews galore at the Maison MM. After all when Renzo Russo, creator of Diesel and majority shareholder of Margiela, announced after Paris Fashion Week earlier this month that Martin was no longer at the design helm of the brand (although...

The accessories in Paris were in a realm of their own. From McQueen's towering, curved platforms to John Galliano's erotically-inspired heels, there was definitely a foot fetish this season. The bondage theme we saw happening in New York continued at Givenchy and Marant, with straps and buckles galore. Lanvin opted for a safari moment while Louis Vuitton took on the clog. See all these and more in...

As always, the best Fashion Week is last! The shows in Paris gave spring 2010 its defining trends. From harder couturelike construction at Balenciaga and McQueen to the feminine froth of Chanel and Nina Ricci, it was a season of choice. From the tattered tees and frayed jackets at Balmain to the exquisite draping at Lanvin, this city proves that it's in a class of its own. Narrowing down to the top...

Sadly Fashion Month is over. During the dizzying show marathon, I’ve been at home, glued to my computer watching all the stylish mayhem unfold, and what mayhem it is. While it will take a while to digest the actual fashions, the statement items, mainly the lust-inducing shoes, have been leaving an indelible mark on my [...] Related posts: Sole Search: Walkable Wedges Do It Your Damn Self: Paris...

From the self-assuredness of his spring collection, you would never have known that Peter Copping has only been at the helm of Nina Ricci for a matter of months. Of course the designer -- who took over from Olivier Theyskens...

The most exciting week of fashion is upon us. Don't get me wrong - New York Fashion Week always inspires, but Paris just seems . . . magical. WWD offered a behind-the-scenes look at some of the fashion houses last-minute musings. I can already tell Isabel Marant will make us swoon all over again with hot-pink tunics and fringed and studded boots. Everyone's talking about Peter Copping's first collection...

Confirming rumors that emerged last month, Mario Grauso will step down as president of Carolina Herrera and Puig Fashion Group. Herrera's show is this morning, so this is fairly dramatic timing to lose a big executive. Puig CEO Mark Puig said that Grauso, Herrera, and he all decided together, amicably, that Grauso's contract wouldn't be renewed. It's unclear why Grauso left, but some speculate he...

Alisa Matviychuk (Marilyn Agency). With her wispy dirty-blonde hair and wide-set eyes, newcomer Alisa Matviychuk represented Ukraine in the Elite Model Look contest last year. The 16-year-old didn't win, but she did get scooped up by Marilyn Agency. When the fall 2009 collections hit just months later, Alisa made her runway debut at Nina Ricci . Casting directors must have noticed her doll-like beauty...

Mario Grauso. Rumor has it that Puig Fashion Group president Mario Grauso will step down after New York Fashion Week, when his contract runs out. WWD reports one source postulates he's unhappy with Olivier Theyskens's departure from Nina Ricci , a situation most certainly deserving of regret. Indeed, Grauso sang Theyskens praises in January, quite a few weeks before the designer's stunning fall 2009...

Rumor had it Anna Wintour was lobbying the heads of Halston , Harvey Weinstein and Tamara Mellon, to install Olivier Theyskens as head of design for the house. But Fashion Week Daily reports that a "well-placed insider" close to Halston revealed the label isn't considering the ex– Nina Ricci designer for the role. "Olivier [as creative director at Halston] will never, ever happen,"...
