The other day I bookmarked a story about the recent tour of the USA that Kraftwerk have just done, which culminated in their appearance at the Coachella festival. The set-list has changed slightly from when they were on their post 'Tour De France Soundtracks' world tour , but the biggest difference has been the absence of founding member Florian Schneider . There is no official word as to why...

Although Kraftwerk was not really on my "must-see" list for Coachella, I am thrilled that we did see them. I am a devotee of Depeche Mode and to see such an influential group perform live was truly amazing. The combination of the repetitive music and fascinating video and light show was a sight to behold. Check out Alt-gramma's fantastic photos of Kraftwerk at Coachella (click for larger...

Timing, they say, is everything. And never has this been more true than this morning. Back in 2004, after I attended my first coachella I realized I had missed one of the biggest shows of the weekend: Kraftwerk . Having known nothing about the influential band at the time, I was able to find the soundboard recording of the set and have since listened to it quite a bit. Fast forward to this weekend,...

... that he is, the opening of this post might have been dedicated to the German gentlemen known as Kraftwerk . One of the pioneers of electronic music, the band's influence on the world of music today is unmistakable. Their set up was simple -- four terminals with a laptop for each of them, with varying backdrops adding to the ambiance as the legends tore through a “Greatest Hits” type set-list....

I got back from Coachella Monday morning. The weekend was tremendous fun. High-points: Kraftwerk - I’ve heard bits of their music for years but their super-low-key on-stage performance was enthralling. Prince - He’s an incredibly talented guitarist, an incredible singer, terrific on the piano, an incredible showman and choreographer, a fantastic songwriter, and incredibly expressive and sexy...

Over at Hitsville , Bill Wyman responded to my ravings about Coachella—specifically, my love for the sets by Prince, Portishead, Kraftwerk, the Breeders, and the Verve—with the riposte "Didn't I see this show in 1995? I certainly could have, except for Kraftwerk..." A fair point, and one that I found myself thinking about a fair bit during the course of the weekend (like, for example,...
