Syrinx - Tillicum (Theme from "Here Come The Seventies")

YouTube via mojofilter02. "Issued in Canada April 1971 on True North TN4-104. [Note 1971 would be before the ARP Odyssey but not the 2600 and of course 2500] Syrinx was an electronic music ensemble led by John Mills-Cockell (Arp and Moog synthesizers and keyboards), with Doug Pringle (saxophone, guiro, bongos, bells) and Alan Wells (congas, percussion). Mills-Cockell studied at the University...

Night Music snoresome

○○●●● ELECTRONIC one-man band Etienne Jaumet 's new album Night Music puts me to sleep - but not quite how it's meant to. The Frenchman's synth-and-a-little-sax opener, the arduous 20 minute For Falling Asleep , is a Kraftwerk -soundtracked nightmare of a track that neither soothes nor stimulates. And Jaumet - also one half of disco duo Zombie Zombie - continues to doze...

Amaaaaaazing! This documentary confirms my suspicion that BBC Four is probably the best thing on TV at the moment. Synth Brittania takes a look at the Electro Pop scene from its roots to its 'end', featuring Kraftwerk, Yazoo, OMD and all the others. I highly recommend checking this one out.... Depeche Mode forever. L.

Lazy

I like a bit of Kraftwerk. So does my cat, actually. She was transfixed by the video to Radioactivity when it was on TV the other day. I prefer this one myself. However, the following performance is the equivalent of a DJ putting on a 13-minute remix while he nips out for a fag and a drink.

Nitzer Ebb Murders the Mod Club

Nitzer Ebb , pioneers of EBM , proved they've still got the beat, rocking out with boundless energy at the Mod Club on Tuesday night. Think of EBM as the bastard child of Kraftwerk and Nine Inch Nails. It's raw intensity makes for a great soundtrack to your toughest workout. And it's really fun to dance to . The physical and severe dance sound that the band embodies is a cathartic experience to witness...

BBC: Synth Britannia

Synth Britannia This is fucking gold. Hit the jump for parts 1-9 embedded from YouTube. The bad news is that for some reason, if you're in the US, you can't watch part 9. What the fuck, BBC? Documentary following a generation of post-punk musicians who took the synthesiser from the experimental fringes to the centre of the pop stage. In the late 1970s, small pockets of electronic artists including...

Electronic Music (2): Kraftwerk - Autobahn

(by John Foxx) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68C-r9kSLNE I heard this on the radio when it first a hit in the early 1970s. It made me smile because it is a restatement of Barbara-Ann by the Beach Boys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3rGMpSc0j4&feature=related For me this is the most important aspect of the song - apart from its electronic instrumentation - and surprisingly, seems to [...]

The 500th Post (in which I ramble and include a Kraftwerk inspired video)

Well, according to the blogger tally, I am posting for the 500th time. Rather than expound upon this relatively insignificant piece of trivia for too long, I will simply thank everyone who occasionally indulges my online hobby by reading and/or commenting on this site. I hope to present at least another 500 posts, while in the process sustaining the occasional jibes from my girlfriend (who at this...

The Shadows & Kraftwerk

Interesting one, this. An overlooked piece of electronic DNA. When I was very young, I heard The Shadows music on the radio. The dark name and sinister song titles grabbed my imagination immediately - Frightened City, Man of Mystery, FBI, The Stranger. It all appeared moody, mean, modern and sinister. Fascinating, I thought. This is [...]

A musical tagging

Sometimes tagging is like receiving one of those childish chain letters or emails, utterly yawn central, however occasionally a tagging causes you to stop and think, I like thinking, it's like a drug. Maybe I should stop and go watch the X-factor or I'm a celebrity, but hell no, they can prise my blog from my dead, cold fingers. Frequent commenter "G", tagged me from here , placing a curse...
