Hot Chocolate - Emma

So dope. I had forgotten all about this tune. I loved it when I was a kid. From singer Errol Brown's website: In 1981 'Hot Chocolate' had the honour of being invited by Prince Charles and Lady Diana at their pre-wedding reception at Buckingham Palace which was attended by Heads of Government and many members of European Royalty . Crazy. I'd love to know what they played for that gig. I'd bet dollars...

HOT CHOCOLATE - “So You Win Again”

(#408, 2 July 1977)Errol Brown brought angst to the dancefloor as regularly as Michael Jackson ever would, but Hot Chocolate’s neuroses were way more effortful, dredged up from some inner coil of dissatisfaction. The rising riff on “So You Win Again” sounds - in the best possible way - leaden, an anchor chain around Brown’s hopes, forever [...]

A truly tasty bargain

I finally found a good deal at a restaurant with great food. And I'm amazed by that fact. England is the land of high prices, and that definitely includes eating out. At a very basic fast- foodish place in London called the Hamburger Hamlet last year, we spent $25 on two burgers, one order of fries and one cola (not being a big drinker and avoiding caffeine , I stuck with tap water, per usual). And...

International executive

Another week of insights. To those picking seats on the Airbus 330. - Don't pick 11a or K. It looks like a great seat on the plane map - but its got a big chunk of the door in front of your feet. You have less leg room than in a normal seat. - Don't be fooled into [...]

Vegetarian Tostadas: Fiddly but worth it

Last weekend I splurged a little and bought 4 new cookbooks. Of those 4, three were from the Williams-Sonoma Savoring series. I promptly sat down and flipped through each. Halfway through the Appetizers book I spotted a vegetarian tostada recipe...

Not waving but drowning

I made a flying visit Up North this week -- I thought my mum might like to see me on Mothers Day, and I was right. It was lovely, and while I was up there I dropped in on Mick the Builder. Mick the Builder is an old friend and an old flame. At the moment he's in a bad way: he met an arty native American woman on the internet (I believe they StumbledUpon each other, rather than doing an online

Snow day!

Little Bit couldn't resist getting out in the snow as soon as possible. So, I bundled her up and she promptly said "I can't put my arms down!" Then, she giggled fiercely. :) The boys got out of school early and what normally takes me about 20 minutes to do took at least an hour. In about the span of a mile, I saw five cars spun off the road. I was going about 25 and people were zooming past me. Oddly...

Turning Point

Today was a major turning point in our French lives. Hahaha its really nothing serious it just really cracks us up. In order to get the point across well I have to explain some things first. I've been meaning to make a post about my dailynormalboring French life because I know you are all so interested. Bear with me on this one I'm doing this mainly for my mom and little cousins so the

I Suffer for My Art

I got home last night at 10:30pm and had a crazy idea. Since Tuesday's snow was probably the last snow of the season, and I hadn't use my new tripod much, I wanted to go out and take some pictures....

Fun plans to halt the boredom

For two straight days we’ve been stuck inside. On Tuesday I babysat my friend's baby, which was wonderful, and today we were housebound due to a large storm (ice pellets followed by a ton of snow). As a result, the kids haven't had a good physical outlet for awhile. I do let them play and have fun but we’re also on the 4th floor so I can't just let them jump for an hour straight, no matter how tempting...

signs of spring?

I'm not taking any of this too seriously, but it's looking good: It's 5pm and Jesse and his friend Logan are jumping on the trampoline, without shirts. On their way out, I didn't run behind them to make sure the door was closed the second they went through it. I even left it open, for several minutes. Creatures were discovered to be coming out of hibernation. Hazel was ready to take off into the newly...
