The plug on this Oakland-based producer's latest project: "Nick James Plays Crown City Rockers is the third installment in the series of remixes dropping every week. Crown City Rockers is a Hip-Hop band that have been captivating audiences with their live shows for years and I took on the task producing tracks to complement their style. In the past two weeks I dropped Nick James Plays Outkast...

1. DOWN AA Gill This week TheSunday Times restaurant critic AA Gill provoked, well, absolute astonishment, really, when he kicked off his column with the instantly immortal line: “I shot a baboon.” Given that the piece was supposed to be a review of the new London restaurant by the TV chef John Torode, it was quite a left-field opener. Gill then went on to explain that, while on safari...

With as lightening-fast as Marko Zaror is, we were incredibly lucky to catch him on camera for an exclusive Fantastic Fest interview. We assume the master martial artist and Mandrill director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza were lured in by the promise of free booze and shag carpet on the walls.

And furthermore , I have lived through one of those incredibly canny midnight screenings in order to tell you that this is as terrifying as this , if not quite its equal in low-fi ingenuity and craft. I can't imagine that Paranormal Activity will work nearly as well without the room-thickening tension of being packed in a multiplex at the witching hour with a group of largely confused patrons, who...

Famed producer 9th Wonder, who aids in the positive real roots of hip hop music, recently wrote an open letter to address Gladys Knight’s statements on the negative effects of hip hop. Last week, soul and R&B legend Gladys Knight publicly criticized rap music, addressing the genre with a rather broad stroke. Professor Patrick Douthit, aka [...]

With Mandrill - the third collaboration between star Marko Zaror and writer-director Ernesto Diaz Espinoza - picking up awards hardware at Fantastic Fest it seems appropriate to point out that collaboration number two - much loved lo-fi superhero picture Mirageman - is finally hitting DVD October 6th. This one has kind of crept up quietly but don't let that dissuade you. This is quality stuff.

The Fantastic Fest 2009 Awards are out, and as far as awards go, what can top a mug full of beer as the actual award? The mug is what you'll take home and put on your shelf, but an icy, cold beer is the real treat. As an example of how off-kilter Fantastic Fest is, the awards opened with the Best Shakeyface award. These were presented to badgeholders who submitted the best shakeyface photo, a Fantastic...
