Retro Review: T. Rex - “Electric Warrior”

In terms of early ‘70s rock, I’ve got not a clue as to what a Jeepster of Love would be. But when Marc Bolan sang of being one to his girl, the definition didn’t matter. Because Bolan was one sexy piece of glam. And the music he created on Electric Warrior , the sixth album for T. Rex , thrust him into a realm even David Bowie couldn’t touch. Sure, everyone in their right mind...

Trevor & Simon's Podcasts

Podcasts: everyone's doing them nowadays. Well, not everyone, obviously. I mean I'm not, and you're probably not either. But then again, perhaps you are. We just don't know. Well, you might, but I don't. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. Podcasts: everybody's doing them nowad- Bugger. Shall I start again? *cough* Amongst the seemingly endless lists of comedy podcasts doing the rounds these days, one that...

There's a Fire still Burnin'

Things I found while looking for my father: The blues Bars Smoke-filled rooms Dirty women. I had actually discovered all of these things before the old man passed away, but I never got to share them with him. He was weak and scarred and scared, and no longer the stud he had been in his navy days. He complained about the noise at a couple of my parties, and helped me once when I got pulled in by the...

Music: Dueling with "The South Florida Daily Blog": Entry 4. By Geniusofdespair

Take a listen to The South Florida Daily Blog Musical Flashback of Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Mine (below). Just for the record, I liked Tyrannosaurus Rex better...his second coming as T-Rex and Marc Bolan not so much. Unfortunately, in 1969 they didn't make videos of Bolan's best songs which were on Unicorn. This is a slide show with Warlord Of The Royal Crocodiles.

Bolan Boogies Long After Death

Back in high school I had a friend who was convinced that Marc Bolan was going to return to the land of the living somehow, someway. Not like the whole "Elvis is alive" movement but more like a reincarnation. It was at this time that I came across a single by Marc Bolan entitled, "You Scare Me To Death". It had been released posthumously and was featured in an ad campaign for mouthwash...

Mike Oldfield's travel guitar up for grabs

guitarz.blogspot.com : We've seen one of Mike Oldfield 's guitars up for auction previously on Guitarz . On that occasion it was his ex-Marc Bolan Telecaster which was the main lead guitar used on his now legendary Tubular Bells album. This time, it's a one-off travel guitar with integral amp and speaker which was presented to Oldfield by the German arm of his record company, Virgin. The guitar appears...

Interview - Gloria Jones

So today my train of thought ran a little like this: The Pigeon Detectives have covered 'Tainted Love' for charity. Soft Cell also covered 'Tainted Love'. It was originally a Northern Soul tune made pretty famous by Gloria Jones. I interviewed her once. I think it's somewhere - aaargh! Where is it? After a bit of delving through CDs I found the little bugger, so here it is. I remember the interview...

Video: T. Rex - Bang A Gong

We’re exactly one week away from Festival 8 , and as Phish continues to kill off potential musical costumes we thought we’d check out a song from what I’d consider a sleeper album of the ones remaining - T. Rex’s glam-rock masterpiece Electric Warrior . Here’s Marc Bolan & Co. joined by Sir Elton John for the band’s most recognizable song Bang A Gang…...

CMJ DOWNLOAD: Evan Voytas - ASTRO

Evan Voytas going in on the falsetto! Dude kinda sounds like Marc Bolan on a helium bender! That is always a good thing! Our favorite Angeleno one-man-band is in town for CMJ schlepping to a bunch of gigs and then spacing minds at said gigs with cosmic pop nuggets like this. He's got a pair of gigs left for tomorrow, we suggest you get familiar. Info after the break. Evan Voytas - ASTRO Previously:...

Forgotten Vinyl #29: "Ringo" by Ringo Starr

In early 1973, Starr decided the time was right to begin - in his mind - his first proper solo album, despite its two predecessors. Having already used Richard Perry to arrange one of the tracks on Sentimental Journey, Starr asked Perry to produce the sessions, which began that March. As soon as Starr sent word to all his musician friends to help him in his new venture, they all responded positively....

X-FACTOR Live: Week 1 (Revisited)

Following Saturday night's X Factor contest I took another look at the performances last night. Skipping through the chat, the intros, the ads and the judges verdicts, brought the 2 hour long show down to three quarters of an hour. Rachel Adedeji was in the bottom 2 for viewers votes, so why was that? Well, the presentation of her song, Robbie William's "Let Me Entertain You" tended to drown...

It's That Poinsettia Again!!!

I knew I shouldn't have got this stamp out. Once I start with it I find it hard to stop. It's just sooooo beautiful. The embossed background behind the flower is cream glitter card which has been distressed with Antique Linen and Taupe inks to tone it down a bit. Paper is Papermania. ........and Gert......the answer is still......no.....you can't have the stamp back.....lol!!! Haven't got as much done...
