19 November 2009 Mums release party at Diesel store "Before my style was black and simple. Now I'm more into grunge and 90's. I like to wear hats, flannel shirts and boyfriend jeans. The whole 90's inspires me, Nirvana and even Courtney Love."
Later this week I'll be celebrating my 29th birthday, it's not a milestone year or something I'm particularly looking forward to turning (though I'm seeing the Pixies to celebrate it), it's just the natural order of things me aging and whatnot. Back in 1981, mere months after I was born, the early stages of Sonic Youth were being set. Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo were just meeting and the history...
The Stp show last night was amazing. Prob one of the best shows I have seen in a while. Our seats where really good (Hard to tell from that cell phone image), but other than one drunk dude who keep shaking the boards we where all leaning on everyone/thing was cool. I am trying to [...]

13th November 2009 at 02 Academy, Birmingham Headliners: Alice in Chains Support: Little Fish I thought that we were going to miss the support band and wasn’t too fussed about seeing them, but we got to the venue in time and I was pleasantly surprised by them. Little Fish are a two-piece female fronted rock band, and [...]
This Devo two-fer from 1980 is a hoot! Girl U Want is by far the strongest of the two songs, Devo at their best. Please forgive the video quality and the occasional audio glitch. I always felt that Devo was more influential than they really got credit for. They have been honored by plenty of bands -- Nirvana , Soundgarden, Sepultura and Pearl Jam , just to name a few.
J. Tillman took the stage at the Middle East Upstairs for a late show on Sunday night. But then again, it was only 8pm in Seattle, the west-coast town that this drummer from Fleet Foxes calls home. The performance was a family affair, with J. Tillman’s brother Zach opening as a solo act called Pearly Gates Music . Zach Tillman offered us a stripped-down version of his already sparse style: leaving...
How many ways is New Moon (the movie) better than New Moon (the book)? We ran the numbers , and the answer is 34. This is less a testament to the vagina-less Chris Weitz than it is a credit to Kristin Stewart's much improved demeanor and Taylor Lautner's not-at-all restless abs. Besides, the tweens of America clearly didn't care how crappy the CGI werewolves looked, they just wanted to feast their...
I can't believe it has taken me 20 years to get to see Pearl Jam . Finally it happens tomorrow. Pearl Jam, supported by Ben Harper and Liam Finn , are playing a stadium spectacular at the Sydney Football Stadium. Usually I'd avoid a stadium show, especially at the SFS (don't remind me of U2's Zoomerang gig with the abysmal sound at the at the SFS - shit was that really in 1993?), but I was able to...
“I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove it lacks in originality. One can’t help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, [...]
When two legendary frontmen get together for a discussion, the result is often a must-watch clip for rock disciples. In this case, Jon Spencer (he of Blues Explosion , Boss Hog , Heavy Trash , and Pussy Galore), and Ian Svenonius (of Nation of Ulysses, the Make Up, and Chain & the Gang) got together at Kutsher's Country Club in upstate New York at this year's All Tomorrows Parties festival. Svenonius'...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) –Almost 15 years ago, former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl quietly circulated among his friends copies of a demo tape on which he did all the singing and played all the instruments. He considered the project "a goof," and he dubbed it "Foo Fighters" because he wanted people to think it was a real band, "like the Ramones or the Pixies," he recalled at a taping of VH1's "Storytellers"...
In September, Nirvana fans were shocked to learn that the Kurt Cobain avatar in Guitar Hero 5 could be used to sing any other song on the game’s track list
