You could make the argument that Canadian anarcho-industrial-rock pioneer Skinny Puppy has been at its most artistically potent (and successful) over the past 27-plus years when there's a right-wing boogeyman at the helm of the free world to rail against. The group — long led by frontman Ni...

Skinny Puppy started in 1982 as a side project of cEvin Key's old band, Images in Vogue. With Puppy becoming a full-time concern in 1986, Key and collaborators Nivek Ogre, Dwayne Goettel and Dave Ogilvie spent the next several years putting out seven landmark releases, including Rabies and...

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are no strangers to Colorado. Lovett and his Large Band are practically regulars at Red Rocks, but this summer the roots/AAA favorite is bringing his buddy Hiatt along for the ride — and playing smaller venues. Lovett and Hiatt will play intimate, acoustic shows together at the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs on Oct. 7, Macky Auditorium in Boulder on Oct. 8 and...

In this installment of “Ask a…” we’re going to talk to a game producer and play my imitation jukebox obscura, where the most dangerous game of all is Ger-man. I uploaded five tracks and changed the file names, but completely screwed up by not removing the tags. Mr. Producer was a good sport about it. [The Tear [...]

Skinny Puppy frontman Nivek Ogre is using the newer name "ohGr" for his new project but he didn't come up with any new sonic dimensions for "Devils in My Details."

I've always regarded Canadian Industrial band Skinny Puppy 's 1992 album 'Last Rights' as a failure - a bloated album. If the band's 1990 album 'Too Dark Park' already teetered on the edge of the swollen, the 1992 album certainly was overdone. Nivek Ogre's vocals had devolved from anguish into kitsch sentimentality; the music was " ... a scribble effacing all lines, a scramble effacing all sounds...

During the Eighties as half of Skinny Puppy, Nivek Ogre (or just Ogre, or Kevin Ogilvie) created a much-imitated, arresting blend of industrial and hard rock, belched forth amid bewildering onstage theatrics. A showman from the beginning, Ogre quickly used his theater of the horrifically absurd a...

Continuing our theme of the Heroin Olympics , next up we have two essential Download releases. The Eyes of Stanley Pain - along with The Process - is the last real taste of Dwayne Goettel’s work before he died of an overdose in his parents’ bathroom; the sound pallette is heavily techno, but the construction is [...]

Oh man... I honestly really wanted to like this film. Composer Terrance Zdunich stated after the screening that he believes there is an audience for a 21st century Rock Opera and I absolutely agree. With a great premise (which this film has), it could find a solid fan base and creep into the mainstream. But that's not this film. This film is quite the mess. The back story tells us that
