Most recognized for his hit "Feels So Good," Chuck Mangione's lightweight and uplifting jazz has brought standing ovations around the globe. With his boundless energy, unabashed enthusiasm and pure joy radiating from the stage, Chuck Mangione will blow that horn at The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts on Friday, October 24 at 8 p.m. as part of the Danbury Audi Jazz Series. An...
Cabarete.– Cabarete Beach and Santiago will again host the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, an eminently tourist event which features performances by premium international jazz artists such as Chuck Mangione, Ramsey Lewis, Bobby Sanabria, Ray Baretto, Nestor Towers, Gossipy Valdes and Arturo Sandoval, who have previously performed, among others.

New York first-call guitarist Jeff Barone's Open Up creates a platform that covers a range of song types for the leader/composer and his colleagues--all aces--to work both as a terrific team and highly inventive soloists. There's everything here from Barone's beautiful solo strums to hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz...
1. I just love writing. I really do. No, no long reflections or juxtapositions. Just needed to get tat out there. Lately, I’ve thought about what how happy writing makes me, even when my own writing here has become a subject of contention in different areas. My musings about life, love, and the pursuit of [...]
Humble. That’s the one word I would use for 2-time Grammy winning jazz artist, Chuck Mangione. He’s made the theme song for millions (no, really, he was commissioned to make the 1980 Winter Olympics song, “Give It All You Got,” instant classic), and has made (I’m guessing here) tons of money in the process. When he [...]
This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of Dave Righetti’s 138 pitch no-hitter against the Red Sox, the first no-no at Yankee Stadium since Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1965 World Series. Currently toiling as pitching coach for the SF Giants, Righetti sat down with the San JoseMercury News’ Daniel Brown to review his [...]
I'll be marrying my dear Nancy this Sunday in a small ceremony held with family and friends in Forest Park, Springfield, Massachusetts. My son Matt will be my best man, and Nancy's two sisters and two oldest friends will make up the bridal party. Then we're off for an Italian honeymoon , so it will be a few weeks before I blog again. Since I can't invite you all to be guests at the reception, I thought...

Here's a new curve for you: I'm calling it the passion/pop curve. That bell curve to the left represents acceptance by the focused/excited/tastemaking community. Those are the people who love microbeers and haute couture and Civil War memorabilia. Like all...
Art Blakey (aka- Abdullah Ibn Buhaina; just plain Bu to his friends) helped revolutionized jazz drumming. He founded the Jazz Messengers– through whose ranks dozens of incredible young musicians passed (from Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Mangione, and Keith Jarrett to both Branford and Wynton Marsalis and Terence Branchard)– in 1954. Blakey died in 1990 [...]

Not going to say much about the Caps-Flyers game two that occurred earlier today. The Flyers won 2-0 and outplayed the Caps in every part of this game. Game three is in Philadelphia Tuesday night. Series tied 1-1. Also another event I love, The Masters, laid an egg today. There wasn't any drama, no Tiger Woods charge from the six shot hole he dug himself in. The result was a snoozer and the champion...
