Some pure listening pleasure on a grey Wednesday afternoon. Even when playing a throwaway pop song like Stormy, Gabor has his very moving and intense Hungarian thing going on.

There has been one record label over almost the last five years now, that has been building a bridge between the sophistication of re-editing old disco, soul and funk tunes and the hedonism of the dancefloor in perfect fashion. My recent interview with Bernardo Huberman, Director of HP's Social Computing Lab was fascinating because the research seems to uncover basic human traits that could be universal. Mr Huberman and his team have been publishing the results of their studies. Here is a selection and it all looks fascinating. This is much better material than the hype and spam driven social-media-expert-type drivel out...

Just to tie up some loose ends from some previous posts here is a double download post. This video is the studio version of Mizerab which is really good, yet I could not find the real live gem youtoobed .(The live LP- The Sorcerer is a great introduction to man's pure radness. High points being Mizerab, The Beat Goes On and Space) Now for you that have had enough of this continuing theme of the man,...

Absolutely classic- young Gabor Szabo on his probably first big festival. Name of the song is "El moors" and few years later it was recorded on Chico Hamilton's album "El chico", an amazing version as well. It's no wonder Szabo was such a cult figure with an amazing touch and use of air. Gabor Szabo post con download coming...

It's 8pm local time, I just came back from a delicious teppanyaki dinner in Ebisu , and I am sitting on my hotel room's balcony, on the 11th floor of the Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo . From my MacBook Pro's speakers, Gábor Szabó is playing The Sorcerer, and I am enjoying the cool breeze of an early rainy season. It's my 16th trip to Japan, and over the years, I have learned a few things...

I only port code once I have a failing test written to exercise that code. Just need to figure out how to tickle the other 5%. I plan on putting a big push in this weekend to get a release candidate version of YAML::Perl onto CPAN. The code rally is working quite...
