THE Bb BENDERs About New Orleans and Clarinet Players "...Those were happy days, man, happy days. Buy a keg of beer for one dollar and a bag full of food for another..." "...There were two thousand registered girls and must have been ten thousand unregistered. And all crazy about clarinet players..." Alphonse Picou. 12.00 I make up just under fifty artman glitter cards while watching Prime Minister’s Question Time. For once the Liberal democrat leader was the most effective with a question about the position of the Ghurkhas, an issue where I expect the government and the rest of Parliament to give in, if there is sufficient public support, He was also powerful about Iraq but covered old ground and would...
I like this concept, y’all. I like it a lot. Not only hall-of-famers like Chuck Berry and Smokey Robinson, but forgotten artists such as Larry Williams,...

I've been listening to Louis Jordan for more years than you've had hot lunches (please pardon my Pythonizing), and always counted him in my top 10 desert island artists. So I was very surprised to find a veritable snotload of tunes I'd never encountered before from Pathway to Unknown Worlds , mostly stuff from the 50s. Damn, I need to get out more often.
Here at Word Manor we're trying to think of long-established artists who've made great albums in the noughties. We're looking at Solomon Burke for Don't Give Up on Me , the Boss for his Pete Seeger collection, Brian Wilson for Smile , that kind of thing. Has anyone got any particular favourites from old folk we have have missed?
As Halloween is nearly upon us I thought I'd give the John Buscema Avengers banner a rest for a while and go with some lovely Gene Colan Dracula art. And as a bonus here's another pic of Drac, giving it the full Lord Of Vampires treatment. Despite all the great actors to have portrayed Vlad the lad over the years - Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Jack Palance, Gary Oldman, Louis Jordan, er, George Hamilton...
You're probably thinking I must be really struggling if I'm going to bother penning ink, so to speak, on an honest-to-God INDIE-ROCK album like Sebadoh 's third outing, correct? Really, isn't that the kinda recording folks waste their lives reading the whitebread outpourings of collegiate shmucks at Pitchfork for? Well, you're way off the mark. I'd love to spill the beans on some kick-arse jazz I've...

Fats Domino sings the song that gave this feature its name. In his biography Blue Monday: Fats Domino and the Lost Dawn of Rock’n'Roll, Rick Coleman claims “The Fat Man” predates any claim Elvis Presley may have to performing the first rock’n'roll song. Because so many blues and R&B performers can also lay claim to [...]
Curtis Ousley was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1934.
