In this fan-recorded clip from a few weeks ago, the B-52's, Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, and others come together to belt out a gleeful version of Sly and the Family Stone's inclusive anthem "Everyday People." It seems like a blast, but the amusing thing about the clip is the way every time Fred Schneider perks up and sings louder, it feels as though you've just bitten into something weird and unexpected....

Last night on The Daily Show , Jon Stewart enlisted the B-52's Fred Schneider to turn snippets of Scott McLellan's audiobook version of What Happened —in which the former White House press secretary makes the shocking claim that the current U.S. president might be something of a propagandist (I know, right')—into a party at the Love Shack. Schneider looks half-mortified to be there, perhaps because...

Monica Nation is the co-owner and general manager of Kate’s Lazy Meadow Motel in Mount Tremper, New York (that's in the Catskills Mountains, not too far from famous Woodstock). The Kate part happens to be Kate Pierson of the B-52’s. They're partners in life and partners in business. While Kate is away on tour and [...]

The lyrics are a mix of cornball fluff and cheeky double entendre, the music is of the cheesy disco variety, and the vocals -- well, vocalist Kate Pierson is the only B-52 with an outside chance of passing an "American Idol" audition.

On Tuesday the B-52’s will release their first album of new material in 16 years: Funplex. While that's a long stretch between releases, the band wasn't exactly quiet during that period — they toured every few years or so, and in 1996 vocalist/yelper/cheerleader Fred Schneider released his second solo album, the surprisingly gritty and [...]

photo by Hudson Gardner Eagle Seagull , currently on tour with Tokyo Police Club , have just announced that they will be the special guests of the B-52's on their tour this spring. While I wouldn't be excited to see the B-52's necessarily, Eagle Seagull is a band I would highly recommend checking out. If you miss them at SXSW , hopefully you can catch them at one of their shows on their massive US...

So far this year, some of our favorites oldies -- see the Breeders, Portishead, and, of course, the B-52's -- have released new albums that more or less picked-up where they left off, updating the sound some, not losing steps in the process. They're obviously three very different bands, so doing a contrast/compare wouldn't make sense, but still, let's say it: Portishead win the "gloomiest comeback"...
