The Popdose staff was sitting around the other day, doing what we do best — namely, talking about records that most people wish they didn’t remember — when a discussion about the Moody Blues’ “Your Wildest Dreams” somehow led into some heavy-duty reminiscing about the records we all listened to when we were kids — [...]
1981 The Sound From the Lion’s Mouth (Korova) A few pretty awesome albums in ‘81, including albums by Nico, Killing Joke, The Cure, The Ramones, and outstanding debuts by Husker Du, New Order and The Replacements. But this decision was easy. From the Lion’s Mouth is one of my favorite albums of all time, and as I’ve [...]
Thanks to George Orwell, 1984 seemed destined to be a gloomy, ominous year -- and there was some darkness, thanks to Echo & the Bunnymen and the Cure lurking in the background, but 1984 was much, much more than murky English mope rock. This was the year that gave us such blockbusters as Purple Rain, Born in the U.S.A., 1984, and Like a Virgin while also giving us such major underground touchstones...

In some cases we’re a cent, though I’m definitely not going to hold that against Paul Westerberg who just released his latest album 49:00 for, you guessed it, $ 0.49 cents. Paul Westerberg is a legend and a genius, there’s no question about that. His band, The Replacements, was one of the most quintessential and [...]
"Don't tell my sister about your most recent vision. Don't tell my family they are wicked strict christian." -Craig Finn of The Hold Steady The new Hold Steady album, Stay Positive, has been in heavy rotation on every musical playing device I own. I was hooked from the first song, "Constructive Summer", which has many similarities to the incredible Husker Du song "Celebrated Summer." This is
Minnesota Monthly: As unlikely a figure as Hüsker Dü drummer Grant Hart -- Pawlenty classmate from South St. Paul -- admits to having wrestled with the mystery. "I knew the guy for years," Hart once told columnist Jim Walsh, "and...
Hüsker Dü According to this totally random list I found, the 25 'Greatest Punk Rock Artists' are:1. The Clash 2. MC5 3. The Ramones 4. The Sex Pistols 5. The Stooges 6. Dead Kennedys 7. Fugazi 8. Black Flag 9....
Captain's Dead has posted Husker Du tracks of the band rehearsing Warehouse: Songs and Stories . The band is amazingly tight. Husker Du was the world's greatest punk rock band in 1987. No band since then merged pop, punk and metal better than the Twin Cities boys.
The band, Sick Of Sarah, was named when lead singer Abisha Uhl, 25, was talking to her roommate, Sarah, who was complaining that she didn't like her name, that she was "sick of Sarah" ...

This is a very college-rock oriented list, because that's mostly what I listened to from 1981-1987, and over the years, those songs have made it to my hard drive. If I remember correctly, this song was the epitome of the Huskers for my son, who was 10 at the time ... his version of hardcore was "newdayRIsing, newdayRIsing, newdayRIsing!"
2. Run-D.M.C., "

The Hold Steady are a Brooklyn-based band whose members are pushing 40 and play raw-nerve hardcore glaringly similar to bygone bands Husker Du and Buffalo Tom. Singer Craig Finn’s emotive tales of depression, lost girls and summers are a refreshing blast of male hurt within today’s ‘hall-of-mirrors’ world of rock styling.
