As I said earlier, I picked up The Dictators first LP, Go Girl Crazy! when I was back in Florida. The album came out in '75, and while they're not exactly punk, they are in some ways kindred spirits with bands like The Ramones. They're a sort of heavy metal joke band with a professional wrestler (Handsome Dick Manitoba) on lead vocals. But while punks (even the Ramones) were mostly self-identified...
Hüsker Dü According to this totally random list I found, the 25 'Greatest Punk Rock Artists' are:1. The Clash 2. MC5 3. The Ramones 4. The Sex Pistols 5. The Stooges 6. Dead Kennedys 7. Fugazi 8. Black Flag 9....
Jim Basnight’s got quite a rock & roll resume – his band Meyce played one of the first punk shows in Seattle in 1976 and in 1977 they opened for The Ramones. His next band The Moberlys recorded a great self-titled album that made Trouser Press’s “Underground Top 10” list in 1980. Basnight has been making consistently great music ever since, both as a solo artist and with Jim Basnight and The Moberlys...
the bucky rage are the best band you’ve never heard of. unless you’ve never heard of the stooges or the cramps or ac/dc or the ramones or the flamin’ groovies or suicide. in which case these are the best bands you’ve never heard of. or, if all you’ve heard is post-danzig misfits or the macc lads or cannibal corpse or [...]
Times New Viking = awesomeness. The band from Ohio embodied the rock 'n' roll spirit on Coney Island. Maybe, the Coney Island of the 70s where the Ramones ruled over the NYC punk rock scene. They don't look like a...
"Chamber's Brothers version is better than the Ramones." So's my Aunt Fannie's. Seriously, I love the Ramones, but that is the 2nd worst cover of ANY song I have ever heard. BAD GARAGE COVER BANDS can't do any worse. (#1 is David Bowie's version of "I'm Waiting for My Man" Yikes.) However, the good news is, I just blew 99 cents on the 11 min single version of the Chambers Bros on Amazo
If we're doing covers of Time Has Come Today, then let's pick the Ramones. Why not use the original by The Chambers Brothers? Ya know, the interacial group fronted by four brothers from Mississippi from the '60s. The symbolism's fitting, plus their version is much, much better than the Ramones'. Hell, I say go nuts and play the 11-minute version.

The Copyrights appear to have infringed liberally on a sound trademarked by the Buzzcocks and the Ramones, but when you're dealing with goofy, fun pop punk, no one's going to get too haughty about intellectual property. This Carbondale, Illinois-based band isn't G-rated (while the Descendents d...
